Sennheiser gsx 1000 thread?

Keep in mind here the GSX works best when a game or Movie is outputting native 5.1 / 7.1 channel the GSX then takes that and creates its own Virtual Surround sound.. This Video sample is "Stereo ONLY" so the GSX is taking a two channel stream and creating a virtual surround sound. Even though this isn't the recommended way of using the GSX I firmly believe it's done an excellent job here even beating the Dolby Atmos Headphone.

Is that with all software surround/atmos processing disabled when doing the GSX runs of the demo?

Atmos does a good job of creating an immersive, movie like, soundscape i.e. good for single player but IMO stuff like the GSX works better for picking out individual sounds i.e. good for multiplayer.

With the Stereo run and Dolby I set the Windows to stereo only all GSX stuff was disabled. The Atmos only activates once you enable it within windows sound otherwise you get just plain stereo.

The GSX was with Dolby Disabled and was just taking the two channel audio and creating its own virtual surround sound.

Would this be major overkill for a set of HyperX 1's?

Tired of Creative driver issues and this fits the bill perfectly although its pricey but if it will work well with current headset then I might be able to take it on the chin for the benefit of no more software/drivers, good virtual surround and utilise current headset

How does it compare to SBX, different league? I really like SBX, when it works.

I much prefer it to sbx. I went from a sound blaster Z to the gsx and didn't regret it one bit

You just missed them on offer :( was down to £170 at one point - quite unusual for Sennheiser to go on sale like that. So possible they will do it again.

EDIT: The pro is currently at £180 again - but not sure there is actually any stock - last time I checked it was out of stock though it showed 1 left. Some Spanish place has them at £170 as well but no idea if they are reputable or not.

EDIT2: Looks like there is some stock of the 1200 pro actually - worth buying it at that price over the regular one lol.

Got mine from the Rainforest shortly after launch, it briefly went down to £190 so I snapped it up after reading positive reviews here.

Hi again. I've been all over the place trying to decide on the right sound set-up for me. I was recently veering towards a full 5.1 speaker set-up, but my home situation has changed, so headphones are the best option again - I'll just have to suck it up re: clamping and hope my noggin/ears do okay with hrtf.

Anyway, I keep coming back to the GSX, for ease of use (have had plenty of problems with sound card drivers over the years), and user reviews from you guys. As I said before, I already have Q701s which won't play well with the GSX. So my options are buy other headphones, or try double amping. So I have some more questions if you guys don't mind.

Would a "neutral" (probably the wrong term) sounding amp like the Meier Audio Jazz do well with the GSX/Q701s combo? Anyone tried anything like that?

If it's a non-runner, I'll go for the HD599s. Either way, I'd need a mic that I can use with the cans. Was thinking of the Modmic. Will it work well with the GSX?

Could anyone recommend a pair of desktop speakers to go with the GSX? 2.0 is fine, and would be for general use, i.e. YouTube, music, quick gaming session when surround isn't needed. Budget would be £150ish.

Thanks!

Ah cool was wondering.

CX20745 DAC not one I've seen used much.
Easy to understand why it isn't used:
1 Vrms into 32 ohms is weaker than 1,1V of cheapest Realtek codecs in motherboards!
https://en-us.sennheiser.com/global-downloads/file/8226/GSX_1000_-_Fact_sheet.pdf
Even basic sound cards manage that easily, not to mention high end sound cards.
For GSX's price that's sure plain lame performance.

Well, at least its binaural simulation algorithm doesn't suffer from Dolby Headphone's bass bloat and overal public path/ceramic tiled room echo.
Though Creative's binaural-simulation is better:
And GSX's price would cover SB Z and separate Objective2 hp amp capable to driving almost any possible headphone.

Personal preference
I upgraded from a Sound Blaster Z and the GSX blows away SBz but again this is personal preference!
I still use my SBz though and that is only for music because I really like my EQ

For Gaming the GSX just can not be touched and I have used almost them all Virtual surround sound.

Which headphones do you use with them?
