Sennheiser gsx 1000 thread?

I've got the HD 599's and a GSX 1000 and it's great for games. I've ran to flags with team mates in BF1 and can hear the difference when they run on grass, gravel, etc. But music sounds terrible through it so use a Fiio E17 with the HD 599's.

As said above, we can tell you what we've used, what we like but at the end of the day sound is subjective and subject to personal taste.

Music sounds good personally with the GSX 1000.

I just don't know if I should return the GSX 1000 and the HD 599s and just get the 373D heeadset. I just need someone to help me determine whether which setup would be more "quality". I'm done with stereo, I hate it so I won't be using it. Sticking with 7.1.

Thanks for replies.

People told me Stereo is the best for my HD 599s
I'm sure you've met people who just seem to have trouble visually finding the most obvious things.
I guess there are people with similar limitation for hearing and binaural sound just being too complicated for them...

Howevver I like the HD 599s with the GSX 1000 but I just want to know what would be the difference between the HD 599s + GSX 1000 and the PC 373D 7.1 gaming set.

Because it would be pointless me using the HD 599s with the GSX 1000 if the headset will be equally as good because I could save money or something.
PC373D is likely based to lower model than HD599 (you won't get that mic for free) so there's no sense in paying for some separate gaming headset.
While AKG and Audio-Technica have few better "detail whoring" models for super competitiveness unless Sennheiser has screwed up HD599 should be very good.
HD595 sure is.

Lot better paranoia than in Alien-movies...

And some BF4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1_20T8x_OI
BF4 itself has echo in sound (listen stereo at 13mins) and optimal SBX Pro setting would be close to 70%.
(but that 100% still has lot less echo than Dolby Headphone)

With its blatant and extreme level gaming product overpricing for really low end hardware I'm no fan of GSX, but it should be enough to drive HD599s and has good binaural-simulation.
That PC373 might be also using generic Dolby Headphone dongle.
Smallest DH setting to avoid its excessive echo would help to explain smaller "sound field" mentioned in Kotaku's review.

Thanks. Yeah I'm sorry for keep making threads abbout this crap it's just I'vve read so many reviews and stuff and apparently the HD 599s with a amp/dac is better. It sounds like the PC373D uses Dolby Headphone. Is that the headset you were using previously? If not, what was it?

You mentioned in another thread that you didn't like the reverb on the GSX, though Dolby Headphone has quite a bit too. It also sounds like you've spent a significant amount of money already, so before you return or buy anything else I recommend following the guide in this reddit post, so you can at least find what virtualisation you prefer and then if you still feel the need to you can make a more informed purchase.

The earlier versions of the PC373D used a dongle with Dolby Headphone - actually used Pro Logic X or Z encoding so wasn't too bad. I'm not upto speed on the latest incarnation.

this is my old headset - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-PC363D-Surround-Over-Ear-Headset-Black/dp/B008O515CK

I'm not sure whether I should buy the upgraded version which would be the 373D or just keep my HD 599s with the GSX 1000.

Let's put it this way:
When gaming product GSX is hugely overpriced for its hardware, I wouldn't trust gaming headset to have better sound quality than audio product.

If you just can't get GSX to work properly in your PC, because of some hardware or software/what ever incompatibility, isn't problem in it instead of very good sound headphones?
Unless wanting good bass impact/super level competitiveness I just don't see any sense to further play with different headphones.
(mechanical design is different aspect)

HD59x models should all work (unless HD599 is very different from predecessor) very well with Creative's binaural simulation.
Sso you don't have to give up 3D sound because of GSX declining to cooperate with you.

It's surely something cheap enough to not endanger profit margin.
So likelyhood for some Dolby Headphone processing chip is good.

Thanks for your reply. I'm just gonna keep the HD 599s and the GSX 1000. Kind of used to it now. Shame I really dislike stereo though, I really do not like it.

Go play pubg with 599s and gsx.. make sure it's setup properly 7.1 in Windows etc and max volume you'll be amazed at how good it sounds.. especially sound positioning can pin point gun shot directions and also distance.

7.1 in windows? Does that even make a difference because I usually just enable it on the GSX 1000 itself. Also do I need to mess with these ? https://gyazo.com/6d7645ac26ec75da09f555fa751fc22b

What volume do you normally has the GSX 1000 on too?

Yes make sure 7.1 in Windows is set as it won't work properly with the gsx otherwise.. night and day difference.

Also whatever games u play make sure u go into audio settings and change to 7.1 or 5.1 if it's available.

There was a bug recently with latest win 10 update were the audio reset back to stereo after a reboot. Nothing major but I had to change to 7.1 everytime i rebooted as the gsx sounded pretty awful in pubg but after switching to 7.1 again within windows changed things drastically especially when it comes to directional audio.

For some reason enabling 7.1 within the windows sound just resets everytime I close the window.

Those who've experienced both: How far ahead of SB-Z's positional is GSX1000?
Been running with a pair of AKG K550, sidegraded to the new Senn 598sr (Got them on a bargaintastic £64 deal. Uses the comfy headband from the 598cs).
Just curious if there's a reasonable step up from SB-Z to be worth considering alternative sources now.

I had SBZ XR with 558s and now have gsx1000 with 599s and obviously prefer the gsx 599 combo.. I only game (pubg and ow) and positional audio is top notch.

Different head/ear shapes&sizes cause differences how different binaural-simulations work, but myself don't find it any better than SBX Pro.
Tested with AKG K702, Beyerdynamic DT990 and Sennheiser HD595:
There's one another comparison, but with something messed up and GSX sounding like stereo.

Then there's the thing of hardware wise GSX being as much upgrade as some Wartburg/Lada from western car:
Struggling to match Audigy Fx's DAC and output and even worser connections for luxury price.

I have had the gsx for some time now and while i can detect gun fire and airplanes accurately, footsteps is another thing. I have started a thread here and im looking at what will give best positional sound including footsteps.
Tested BF4 and i couldnt hear them until they were already firing upon me, im just unsure what to do next.
I have the windows 7.1 and full range speakers on and then 7.1 on the gsx etc and finer details are an issue.

Am not sure what might be the issue here. I not played BF4 with GSX but I did play a lot of BF1 and had no issues hearing footsteps.

Ok i just tested with the on board realtek alc 1220 and the mic still through the gsx as the on board mic has some interference from my 1080ti i presume as it sounded like an alien all the time lol.

The actual sound from the on board was actually better and i could hear footsteps much better, now im unsure if the gsx has a fault or something as i would`nt expect on board to sound better?
I have a sound BlasterX G5 on route to test further and see what happens.

Defo should be sounding better than onboard. Minding posting some screenshots of you Windows audio settings? Not by chance enabled the new Windows 10 7.1 spatial Sonic for headphone? This will conflict with the GSX sound.

You'd don't have it connected to USB 3 port do you?

I've seen some people say it doesn't play well with USB 3.

My older Motherboard I had my connected to USB2 and using a more recent dated motherboard I only have USB 3 and its still working fine here.
