SETI@home News Vol. 106 (21/05 - 02/06, 2010)

Tried and rejected twice Biffa...check your email add me to messenger and will drop em across that way.
Marine 3 sheets to the wind lol enjoy....might join ya in a glass :D

MI: LOL
Toxic: Nah I've had a 480 for months and a EK Waterblock, just now that they released clients for Folding and Seti, I haven't had a chance to set it up.

Now I'm dismantling weebeastie to send off the 295's I've only had the money raised from them to buy the new cards, plus I was pushing the thermal/power/leccy envelope with the 295's so have gone for 470's and Aquagrafx full cover blocks, mainly because the cooling properties of the one I got for the 295 was just as good as the EK blocks and also because they are so thin and sexy :)

I wish i had the nerve Biffa...all my get up and go's got up and gone with the time and energy spent just getting em to work.
The thought does appeal to me mind, but then i would have to sell some stuff for those hyd cop i just cannot see me pulling a gpu apart and putting my own block on never mind the gubbins :D

Nah am bone dry when i think about it that bottle of absolut will have to stay in the cupboard will make do with a cuppa cha instead :D

Just noticed seti message boards are up n running search for this thread
Message boards : Number crunching : CUDA MB V12b rebuild supposed to work with Fermi GPUs About half way down Todd Herbert is hosting the neccessary files all you want is the entire contents of his data directory forget the bits n bobs this ways easier, when you have them follow the instr below....i tried to be clear as i could.

Install boinc 6.10.56
Set it to no new work
Let it download the master file with your preferences etc Copy all the files from downloaded boinc program data folder into your boinc data directory even if it asks you do you want to replace existing file just say yes and copy everything exactly as is.
Depending on your processor the app_info may look wrong to you as its sse3 thingummybobs but look on the messages tab in boinc once its done the processor features bit and as long as your processor is sse3 capable it will be ok Dont install optimized apps lunatics etc it causes more problems than its worth and just use reschedule to catch vlars etc. If your not comfortable with leaving lunatics out you can give it a go but if it messes up just uninstall it and re copy all the files that you originally copied into your data directory.
Well thats exactly as i have done it, it's been a royal pain in the butt and had taken days to get right but it seems to work well.
As you know i am not the smartest person in the world but if i can get it working you sure can. I did use msi aft or evga prec to monitor temps and oc etc but if you install the new ion drivers do yourself a favour and download/install nvidia system tools they are handy and show the factory shipped clocks as well as options to o/clock. Damn cards have a terrible habit of throttling back when temps get high i just leave it on 80% with a 5year warranty sod it lol! :D

Morning Kolala yeah those files come down with 6.10.56 and they're included in the above downloadable files, i left it tidy for ya on my way out....sorry about the coke cans and pastie wrappers :D

Its not that hard.. check it out:

Interesting but by the time you buy the card say £300 block 70 grease, pads and time etc, how much do you think the evga hyd copp will be when they come into stock?:)

I just bet they will be too but it is rather tempting, i know watercooling will be complicated but wondered if there's a way you can have say 2 watercooled gpu's then easily add more later on without too much ado?
Darn this postie comes early :)

:D thank you M....would make an interesting project mind...hmmmm i must think carefully grasshopper and the answer will come, if i do it will i get my pc wings would i officially be a modder?:D:D

Toxic,
I used EVGA precision and just whacked up the shaders, don't worry about the core, they are linked so uping the shaders also ups the core - have left the memory for now, it couldn't have been simpler...
With the fans at 100% Im getting temps of 50C, drop the fans to 75% and Im at 61C

Biffa - just install the stock app, as it supports fermi now, Im not sure you need to water cool, as the temps are not anywhere near as bad as people made out, at least not on the 470's
Dont look at the thread posted earlier, it has been closed, there is an ongoing sticky thread at the top of the number crunching boards, use that instead...

Nice one Toxic - it only took me about 6yrs to get to 2 million so you are slightly ahead of schedule :D

Today could be the day Grimgoth, my Fermi is down waiting for work and Berkeley are down with problems over a new fermi wu scheduler. I hope they fix it, as it definitely wasn't working, with a 10 day cache I had 100's of CPU units, but only 24hrs of gpu based units....

Yup thats what i did but by the time i had removed the last 295 and refitted the stock cooler and tested it, i whacked in the 480 installed drivers ran a few test, downloaded the new boinc and just ran it and went to bed. This morning weebeastie was in standby mode. Teach me to use thw W7 partition :( no time to fix it this morning.

Per watercooling: with 4 of the buggers in there I may be pushing it a bit harder than most of the reviews :) i'm actually worried it will be hotter thaan the 295's

Also, although the seti app isnt pushing the temps up with fermi the folding app seems to work it harder, so probably some headroom there :) what would be great would be the Ati client getting released, Raist seemed to indicate he was up to his eyebsalls in AMD code, so fingers crossed on that beacause if they get it working i hazard a guess the 58xx's might just be seti monsters :D
