SETI@home News Vol. 116 (19/09/2010)

All but one pc out of seti woo's :(, I hope someone's putting in some overtime at Berkeley over the weekend - if not then MadMac is toast on E@H :p

:D:D lol

Ahhhh - too many projects, too few pc's! Id disabled Einstein on a couple of rigs and switched them to Seti in an effort to stomp grimgoth before he got back into full production, now Im wondering about turning it back on, at least for the gpu's
Decisions decisions...
Goes to check the stats sites to see just how close you are...

Thats the fun thing about running numerous projects, its like a game of chess, you have to anticipate your opponent's next move :D

Too true, but you have a slight advantage, with your hardware collection, I feel like Im a queen and rook down before I even start :D But Im going to remind you that every cycle crunched catching me is a even bigger gap between you and toxic, low blow, but Im up for any tactic I can use :p

Meant to ask you is there was anything you could do with my sig so I can fit EAH in?
I can move the text, but then the MadMaC bit gets in the way?

Ouch, guess I asked for that :D, lets not forget there is no time limit and I have lots and lots of time, funds is another matter though :p

Your revised sig will be along shortly S'ah :)

#Sent from my smartphone :D

cheers, too true about the time limit, but it is more a case of funds for the leccy that is a limiting facor, or I would just do away with the heating and populate each room with PC's

No hurry on the sig, just whenever, and I have fired up the old dell on Einstein, just in case :p:p

Afternoon peeps :)
Well its the weekend and am rattling around, tinkering with this n that. Might as well start with the rig thats out of seti tasks, not happy with temps think it might benefit from reseating the cpu etc.
Rig 2 i put an ssd in, works a treat and is noticeably faster in order to save the write rate on it i have boinc on a regular ide drive D: am thinking that may account for the horrendous completion times the last week so its whip out the intel and hello good old fashiones ide to see if there is a difference.
Still have not decided on which 4th project to attach to but am open to suggestion on that one.
Will have a few tasty bits n bobs going the journey this eve ;):)

Mr Halz you have it down to a T liking it to a game of chess, unfortunately i never even mastered draughts so heaven help me :D

....but you have the equivalent of several chess sets - all on one side! In military terms, you can afford to treat your pieces like cannon fodder!

Canon fodder :D:D:D
Mmmm thats an idea, once i've done my bits n pieces on the rigs i think i will sit and learn the basics of chess ......best call the grey matter into service now and let it get warmed up :D

Will this do ? :)

Never mind draughts, I was just chucking out some old disc's when I came accross an old arcade game 'Cosmic Bugs', been playing it ever since, all 700 levels of it  :D

Mr Toxic: How about Prime Grid if you've got spare CPU capacity (they sometimes also have GPU work)? I've always loved the idea of being named a 'co-discoverer' of a mega prime - several million digits long! The application doesn't seem to respect resource allocations; but they always seem to have plenty of work.......

Good idea, one cuppa cha and finish chapter 2 of this chess for beginners book then Prime Grid it is.....check :)

... and mate :)

My two octo-core wingmen are out of work and will be retired once the scheduler woes are fixed. I knew it would happen eventually (though it took about three weeks longer than I thought thanks to a ludicrously inaccurate DCF). That's the end of my 20K+ RAC then. Bye bye RAC. :(

projects down until upload service is migrated

Jeff Cobb
Reality got a little ahead of us on this one. We were days, a week tops, away from migrating
upload service from bruno to bambi. This will double our upload space and allow us to turn
off bruno.

We will now move this up and make it top priority come Monday. We need to reconfigure
the raid on bambi and then let the raid sync. At that point we can both turn the projects
on and start migrating the results from bruno to bambi. We hope that this will be early in
the week. We'll then leave the projects on through next weekend, ie no normal 3 day outage.

Okay then :)

Pick which Prime projects you do with some care - they're a real mix of long and short tasks - almost all of them very short deadlines as well, so keep an eye on 'yer cache! ;)

I don't mind admitting I have rather a large cache (!)- so I should sail through this extended outage without a hitch. Uploading them all is going to be a nightmare though!!!!!
