Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

Not sure enough this game, not saying that I am not enjoying it but it does seem to be lacking something. Plenty to do but for little reward.i still feel the earlier games had better gameplay. I can remember sequenced jumps down slopes where timing was everything and failing so many times. I think the 'Challenges ' are a bit of a joke as they are hardly a challenge just a lot of running about trying to spot stuff. Only done two tombs so far as I never seem to have the right tool to open then so some back tracking to be done now that I have the shotgun and rope ascender.

I'm close to Kuwaq Yaqu and don't really know what to think about this game. Everything about it screams mediocre, I'm sort of enjoying it and not enjoying it at the same time. A lot of rehashed stuff from previous games but it feels a bit worse. I like that the combat has taken a back seat since it seems clunkier than before.

The two previous titles I thought were solid but still lacked that TR charm and were a bit forgettable location-wise apart from a few spots. Didn't really feel like bigger adventures and this is the same so far. More exploration is a good direction to take but it should be more rewarding and better thought out.

Also, I can't see how it's the best looking game on PC, so far I've only seen a totally unimpressive opening section and plodded through a dramatically linear corridor jungle that didn't look particularly good, ranging from OK to decently pretty in some places. Even if there are some astounding locations later, it can't really be called the best looking overall ff it's this uneven.

I'm totally going to continue with it as I like this sort of games, I like going about and reading journals, looking for stuff and exploring desolate places etc. but I thought it would be better executed.

I hate to say this and I'm not really a WorthaBuy fan, but his review is spot-on so far.

It takes well over 1 hour to even arrive at the jungle up to then it looks average. Then a further 2-3 hours before you see the really good looking parts (of which there are many) after you complete this I think you will see its the best looking game right now! As for gameplay its very poor overall starting to think this series will go the way of Dead Rising (studio got shuttered yesterday!).

Half way through it I think, it's OK but I personally liked rise better up to now
Rise was backed by MS as an Xbox1 & Win 10 Store launch title is why that is a better more playable game. Shadow is Eidos Montreal first attempt its not a bad game but without the stunning graphics it would be pretty average overall. I think the next game will have to go in another direction they cannot get away with another game style like this.

A bit of a different question: I've recently reinstalled my system and am now using the newest version of Afterburner. Is it bugged or something? I have my power target set to 120% and have the same OC I used to run before and the GPU clock doesn't go above 2030mhz, while it sat comfortably between 2072-2063mhz in Rise. Not a big deal but I'm just curious.

Probably more taxing, slightly higher temp and in turn lower boost clock.

But the temps are actually a bit lower than in Rise and I'm getting better fps most of the time, weird. Usage is usually anywhere between 90-99% mostly.

I'm trying to explore every nook and cranny before continuing, I've only just got the the village in the jungle (finished exploring the area). No idea how far I am into the game. I imagine about half way?

Am enjoying this so far. Playing on the hardest settings is great adds more thinking to the game no hand holding from Lara or hinting where to jump etc. I can only save at auto check points or camp fire locations also. :D

After getting to Kuwaq Yaku I'm enjoying this a lot more. Really digging the atmosphere. I still think sparser combat was a good decision, makes it a bit more like TR of old where you spent most of the time platforming and solving puzzles. I went like 5-6h without a single human encounter, which is fine by me.

The cities are a nice touch and I'd enjoy the game even more if the jungle wasn't just a set of pretty corridors but it's solid enough so far.

Got 96% completion in Peruvian Jungle (will go back to clean up) and only just did a bit of Kuwaq Yaku yesterday, playing on One With The Jungle.

Not the best game ever and the story is very meh as usual but less hand-holding paired with more to explore is an enjoyable formula. Even though it's pointless and the puzzles are simple, I'm having fun searching for stuff, going into crypts/tombs and reading about artifacts etc.:D Hope it gets even better from now on.

Solid game but also a bit of a letdown. I initially thought it was massive but its not. Game is smaller than Rise just a lot of stuff to do in smaller areas & some of those have decent enough sections but really they should have been part of the main game not sub levels you have to be a completionist to ever experience.

Yeah, the game could use a bit more openness and it'd be better. No need to make it open world or anything just some more less linear areas. The jungle had a lot of unrealised potential.

Is it really that small, though? To me, Rise felt pretty cramped and this gives off a slightly better impression now, even though I'm only in Kuwaq Yaku. Maybe it's because of the town and the fact that I'm going for all the optional stuff, I don't know.
