Shorts and no tie at a wedding?

There's no doubt that social conformity is rewarded. Generally people prefer it when others play by their rules, do as they are told, and conform with all the norms, like good boys and girls. And naturally this also applies to most employers.

Just not all of us give a damn about social conventions, or being a good corporate worker drone, or doing what we're told. Some of us actually *like* sticking two fingers up at convention. At tradition for tradition's own sake. We don't expect to profit from it, we're just being true to ourselves.

Also the digs at people living at home are water off a duck's back. It's not the instant argument winner you people seem to think, in every thread on every topic. And it's been boring for a while. Maybe check out the stats which show it's becoming more and more common year on year. Sure I don't expect the stigma to disappear but it's not exactly uncommon these days, esp in Cornwall and other regions of the UK where the housing market is absolutely out of control. But that's another thread.
Is this posted from your mum's iPad.

e: LOL! Did not expect Dis to be on the same page as me on, well, anything, but here we are.

Just missing "sheeple" and that would have been the ultimate predictable post.
I have never used that word.

I can only conclude that the vast majority find tradition comforting, and the idea of breaking tradition something too horrible to comprehend.

You're welcome to it. I personally think it's conformity for its own sake, but clearly I'm in a small minority there.

I photographed a wedding once in 41c heat in long shirt and black trousers with tie, running around with 2 x DSLR and a bag of lenses. The cameras being black it really attract heat and they were hot to touch!

And I’m not even the one in the photos lol

If you don’t want to stick to convention and tradition you can do the ultimate thing and reject the invite and not go? Write back saying you don’t believe in marriage.

Why go half way, turn up in shorts as some kind of protest? To who? The person invited you?

It’s a weird thing to do, very weird.

Think about it.

No, you never functioning as an independent adult does that all by itself.
Are you done derailing this thread? Maybe make your own thread to mock people who live with parents? I'm quite sure you can Mags can keep it up all day, but I don't think most of us are interested in your hot takes on that particular issue, in this thread.

It's not really a derailment as, as I pointed out, there's a rather interesting correlation presented between those glorious free thinkers/wild spirits/rebels and the inability to succeed in modern society by most metrics.

We're not dense, so don't treat us like we are.

Nobody asked you to correlate anything. You fancied a cheap dig and you had one.

Also please do share your own personal success story and why any of us should give a flying toss about your critique of our lives?

Foxeye is a conformist, the general opinion is one of entitlement, and the welfare state, blaming others for your own life etc.

Lol, the welfare state? The mind boggles. What does the welfare state have to do with anything?

If nothing else I'm having a laugh reading this.

Well you were 'dense' enough not to pick up on the link and accuse me of derailment...

Nobody asked you to post either, yet here we are. Thats how open discussion forums work.

As for the final point, it depends how one measures success.

By modern societal measures I'm fairly successful. I live in a large house in a very nice area, I own multiple premium vehicles and have a well paid and stable job.

I'm well educated and highly certified in specialist technical fields so that could be seen to be successful.

I personally prefer to measure my success on having a good number of close friends whom I can trust implicitly and rely upon, having maintained those relationships in some cases for several decades. Along with good familial relationships and a devoted long term partner. This generally stems from being able to act appropriately in social situations, one facet of which is showing my hosts respect by presenting myself to the standard of their expectations.

Additionally I moved out of my mums spare room when I was 19.

It's ok, it's getting late so his mum will turn the internet off soon.

Oh the struggle was real back in 99 when I got my first PC and showed my mum Mirc lol, it was my PC that I bought with my own money but sat there feeling guilty as I knew my mum was wanting a shot to chat to strangers lol
I made her buy her own PC for the living room a year later but sharing dial up time...grrrr

Lol. I had similar issues back in the day. AOL dial up. I was bottom of the priority list when it came to phonecalls needing to be made and my bloody grandmother called every night without fail!

This is only slightly less cringe-worthy than when Psycho posts about how great he thinks he is.

Have fun framing everyone else's lives according to your own values. Most of us will continue not giving a crap about what you think. That's what being a free thinker is, btw. We don't spend our lives worrying about gaining @Dis86 's approval.

a more effort than dlocker  post ;)

Don't be a tool, it isn't your day. Leave your silly boat boy nonsense outfit on the hangar where it belongs.

I was trying to think of a diplomatic way of saying something like this, but I think that Lockers has hit the spot.
I wouldn’t call you a tool though, not thought it through perhaps, maybe misguided, but not a tool.
