Shorts and no tie at a wedding?

Also the digs at people living at home are water off a duck's back. It's not the instant argument winner you people seem to think, in every thread on every topic. And it's been boring for a while. Maybe check out the stats which show it's becoming more and more common year on year. Sure I don't expect the stigma to disappear but it's not exactly uncommon these days, esp in Cornwall and other regions of the UK where the housing market is absolutely out of control. But that's another thread.

There can be a lot of reasons for it - one of the reasons I moved back home was due to a family member's health situation so its not really cool having a dig at it.

The reason it doesn’t specify exactly what to wear on the invite is because convention dictates what you should wear and it’s bleedingly obvious. If the bride and groom felt otherwise they would say so.

Unless it's 30c plus this weekend and the invite states "informal attire, yes even shorts are allowed" then it's absolute nailed on you should wear trousers.

I also moved back home for a while, due to my father's descent into dementia, to help my parents financially (I basically paid their rent).

That being said, I think it's perfectly reasonable to chastise someone who's never attempted to cut the apron strings and hasn't left home for the first time yet.

I love these threads. They're great for working out who the norms and weirdos are!

I'm glad you think I'm a weirdo but I have plenty of money to survive (no Gucci belt) and I've lived away from my parents from the age of 16 because they buggered off to Nigeria and left me.
I personally think it's weird that some people think the 'norm' is wearing a suit like a monkey.

I don't think, I know! :p

Do you ever have to attend tribunals or court as part of your job? If you do what do people there normally wear?

You misunderstand, nowhere have I said I don't wear them, I would prefer not to wear a monkey suit if I can get away with it.
At a tribunal or court I will be in trousers, shirt and my badge round my neck.

Unless the wedding invite said ‘formal attire optional’ or similar, you should go in a suit.

I went to a funeral recently where a ‘mad as a box of frogs’ family member didn’t wear a suit and went in casual clothes. He stood out like a sore thumb and I must say I was quite annoyed.

Dressing up like this is seen as a ‘mark of respect’, so it can be taken as disrespectful to stick two fingers up to the convention if it’s not your event.

You can always take the tie and jacket off if you get too hot.

Thanks everyone for your comments and sharing your experiences. If a mod agreed to change the username of @Dis86 to "Multiple premium vehicles" I'd wear anything to the wedding, even just a pair of pants and, if a top revenue earner can spare it for the day, a Gucci belt :)

I missed the multiple premium vehicles meme but that is an absolutely hilarious badge of honour.

This thread is great :D

@Dis86 - "Funny how these free thinkers are usually what you'd call a failure"

@FoxEye - "Come on then Dis86 , tell us why your such a success?"

@Dis86 - "Nice car, nice house, decent job, fat wage, trusted social circle, long term partner"

@FoxEye - "HA well I don't conform to your so-called measures of success SUCKER"

Made my morning tbh.

Unfortunately in todays society its a measure of success. Why do you think audi make so much money? They don't make the best cars in their price bracket!

I particularly liked @FoxEye saying that he is a non-conformist but then backing up his living situation by saying "it is being the norm".

This is only slightly less cringe-worthy than when Psycho posts about how great he thinks he is.

Have fun framing everyone else's lives according to your own values. Most of us will continue not giving a crap about what you think. That's what being a free thinker is, btw. We don't spend our lives worrying about gaining @Dis86 's approval.
You do make me chuckle.

The guy is a success, it's up to you whether you give a crap or not (the fact you don't, could explain your failures), but don't assume that others don't look up to objectively successful people.

It's always much easier to put others down than to improve yourself.

What I love is that in your personal life you're the a-typical non conformist rocker.
Yet you have ones of the most square jobs ever
:D
