Should I get a iPhone

Then how am i going to unlock a iphone if i get one tmr as it would more than likely have the latest firmware

All uk phones are 1.1.2, anyway 1.1.2 will be unlockable in the near future now they have a new baseband (fingers crossed)

The trouble in waiting for "iphone 2" is that i doubt it will be hacked for a few months after release if at all.

How long do the iphone battery last then as this is one thing i hate about the n95 damn battery

I get atleast 2 days and thats with a few hours of brosing with safari over wifi & abit of music playing on the ipod function.

For what is does battery life is great, i think once the novelty of it wears off i will get 4-5 days.

Are you signed up to o2 contract? or have you unlocked it?

Also to everyone if I dont unlock it and just use the o2 contract that comes with them can i still jailbreak???

Steve Jobs said that the 3G iPhone would come out "later on in 2008".

Not sure who told you it's coming out in January, at the MacWorld Expo, but you're sadly mistaken :(

May/June is my bet.. perhaps even August at a push.

@Rookies:

You HAVE to jailbreak it before it works with a different SIM to the one that comes with it, including other 02 SIMs.
Activation is done in iTunes.. you have to bypass this stage when jailbreaking.. the normal process would mean signing up for a 02 tariff before you can use the phone.
You cannot software unlock a UK iPhone to any sim, as firmware 1.1.2 is locked down tight tight tight.. USA phones with 1.1.1 or lower are fully unlockable.

Rookies do yourself a favour & get the N95 8gb much better battery life than the std N95 apparantly.

Why on earth would you want the i-Phone when you mainly use MMS, wait for the new version.

Edit: Sorry should have said N95:p

If you mean the N95 8gb version then the battery is ever so slightly larger so you wont be able to fit the back cover on when used in a N95

I suspect it's been said already but it's quite widely rumored that apple will include MMS support in the next software update 1.3

So, that issue will potentially be fixed when thats released (I assume macworld would by the obvious time). Then again I have never in my life sent an MMS so I don't care much, I don't see the point of them personally...

You may not send MMS messages but a lot of people do & there are not many phones around now that are not MMS capable, big oversight by Apple IMO, afterall how difficult would it of been for them to include it?

Though I guess with the quality of the camera in the iPhone not many people would want to use MMS :p

Well, each to their own but I never has and nobody I know uses MMS. Also the UK isn't the world and MMS isn't a big thing at all in the US and elsewhere so it's hardly worth including for the UK market alone...

The amount of MMS messages I've sent could be counted on 1 hand I suspect, not an issue for me, but I suppose it's horses for courses.

I do agree it was a bit silly for Apple to leave out MMS completely, but not getting the phone on that basis alone would be a bit weird in my opinion.

Judging by the videos I've seen of the 1.1.3 firmware then it's coming soon, so it won't be a problem for much longer.. and that's why I got an iPhone.. the continuing improvements and updates that improve it over time :)

I thought it was said at apple "who wants to send crappy little pictures over mms when they can use email to send a decent one" which goes against the camera comment you made :D

:D I happen to agree with that comment myself, but the majority of mobile users can send/receive MMS only a small fraction have the ability and/or are capable of using email on their phones.
