There is too much information nowadays, 12 years ago there was less than half on the internet than there is now about dogs and other pets. All dogs are different, some may take a day or two to get used to a crate as a nice safe place some might just think of it as cage to be locked up in, how you approach things is all down to the dog. Toby here, now sits 90% of the time on voice command without a treat, and using just hand signal, I reckon 50% so far. Trying him with a whistle for recall but I think that will have to wait a week or so before actually trying properly, he is still exploring the garden and house = distractions.
Best thing to do is find a website/YT channel that suits your breed and try those methods instead of taking snippets from 10s of sites that all give different ways of training. Only you know your dog. maybe enrol in classes. I may do that with Toby, definitely taking him to Chatsworth county show next year to try out trials for the pet owner, not doing it properly, no time for that.
