Show us your kitty cats

BloodyL:
Pair of crackers there! And I assume you got them from a home judging by your post, well done!
I made the mistake of visiting our local cats' home (Bath) last month. Could easily have come out with about fifteen of them if they'd let me. Worst place I've ever been, heartbreaking to see so many unloved animals.
As I have two already (Snoop, super-soppy lickle black cutie, and Pubcat, a chubby old mackerel tabby), and no space/money for any more, I had to leave empty-handed...
I'll post a pic when I remember which image hosting site I signed up to!

Craterloads: Thanks, that game of spot-the-mog kept me amused for about five minutes!
Almost like a magic-eye picture- stared at it for ages, couldn't see a cat anywhere, then suddenly, "Oh yeah..."!

That's good value for money. If I didnt already have a big cat tree, I'd get that.

I think I bought my cat tree from an auction site, for around £70-£80 and it is significantly larger than anything that zooplus or the commercial pet shops sell.

I certainly would not buy a cat tree from the commercial pet sites, as they sell cat trees at a 150% markup (minimum).

for thiose of you just getting cats or maybe needing a new scratchy tree:
just saw this over at HUKD too:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007K5NQ8G

It looks very similar to the one both me and a couple of friends bought on zooplus for ~£100

Cheers for that link! We were looking at these things yesterday for £50+ and couldn't find one we liked. This is perfect!

:D

Out of interest... if I was to get a cat, is it possible to guarantee it wouldn't scratch up the furniture? Everything I have is in new condition and I do take care of things... I of course wouldn't mind any kind of cat trees or the like, and every room could have one or two if necessary... but I assume there's no way to guarantee the little guy wouldn't mess up my couch?

Here's Bonnie, our 10 month old rescue kitten. Bit of an odd colour for her, she's a smoke grey tortie with orange ghost tabby markings and her belly chest and socks are all white :D

BloodyL. they are pretty cats..we got two from the rescue home before the two we have now and they do like you to take a couple don't they!

Bonnie is a great colour.

Not really sadly (one of our cats had a thing for the arm of the sofa and in the end I put card over it and she went off it so I was able to take it off again) though if you encourage them to use the scratching post they should use that instead. When you see them go to scratch you can take them to their post; we found putting a post next to the sofa has stopped the newer cats doing it and we've had no problems with scratching since. Trick is when you see them finding a spot to stop them straight away and then they get bored and find their post more fun.

get those little rubber things to put over thier claws?

Cheers all, They are RSPCA cats and come as part and parcel as they are totally inseparable, wherever one is the other is sure to follow. ;)

Thanks for the headsup regarding the play centre however it is worth pointing out that the thing is 180cm high, that's pretty tall!
Was going to give it a punt for the two little-uns but I don't fancy watching them play cat kerplunk so will opt for a standard two storey centre for now, a good call for adult cats though.

Some lovely photos even in this page alone. :)

Ooh, I didn't know about those. That might be the answer... a cat might be a possibility for me :)

I think most cats will try and have those off fairly swiftly and they might annoy them. If a cat really hates them it could damage its feet getting them off. Plus you will have to replace them pretty often as cat's claw shells drop off.

You could just trim the claws and buy a scratching post instead.

These things came about because of the US obsession with declawing instead of buying a scratching post and a pair of nail clippers, they seem a bit strange to me.

For me its simples. Cats scratch stuff, the end. Either put up with it or don't have cats. You can't 'modify' animals just because there is something in their nature you don't like.

Unfortunately, if you have cats (or any animal), you have to adapt your living area to accommodate them.

As an example, my carpets have to be of heavyweight/rugged constructions. My Egyptian Mau rips the carpets to shreds, so having a nice create coloured carpet (which was my aim a few years ago), is no longer on the cards.

You should also avoid buying a nice leather sofa, as you should expect the cats to pierce holes.

For the record, I do trim the claws of my cats. I also have scratching posts. But this makes little difference.
