Show us your kitty cats

Don't forget to get the "mum" spayed asap ( once teh kitties are weaned ) other wise you'll be hearing the pitter patter of yet more little paws. :p

now our cat Maze is a girl so and i swear i have read somewhere that they do need or it is better for girls to actually give birth once before spraying them? she is 6 months old now and is a house only cat so im not even sure how she would get pregnant without going out lol but its just something i've heard of and id like to know what you lot got to say about it :)

No animal needs a litter before spaying. They do not need to know motherhood, will be happier if spayed as they wont be tormented by hormones and they are less at risk of certain cancers.

I think people say the thing about having a litter as they have no knowledge of breeding, think they can make some money by breeding their pet cat or are selfish.

Sorry if this makes no sense, im on my phone.

Raz...make sure you have an appointment to get them injections and to be neutered as well.

You've got a ready made family now :D

Worst case scenario you have to get rid of one of them then keep the kittens and let mum go to a new house, having siblings in the home means they will get on well and not fight for territory.

If you cat stays indoors she will still come into heat. She will be rubbing herself on everything and everyone lol....it's funny at first but soon gets to be a pain in the ass as the wailing of the cat gets on your nerves.

Get her spayed

yeah we are seriously thinking of keeping them all. I work long hours most days atm & the missus si home alone a lot of the time, which was the main reason for getting the cat. Now she is really starting to get attached to the kittens & I don't think I have it in me to make her give one or both away. Have spent today making the kitchen more kitten proof, tomorrow is the living rooms turn.

Do have a couple of questions if any one can help us out.

1/ how old should the kittens be when we start toween them off their mom & onto kitten food? We have already bought some kitten food (have wet & dry) & have some milk fomula stuff, just not sure when to start using it.

2/ are their any major issues with the kittens we should be looking out for?

Loads of good info here:

This is particularly useful if you don't want to feed your cats crud (which most easily obtainable cat food in the UK is).

That's why I buy Animonda for Florence. 27p per 100g and 99% meat. It's as close to the meat that the farmer had been giving her when we got her too. Started on the kitten one and then moved onto the adult one which seems the same but with more fat in it. Even better, she loves it. :) Well not as much as dreamies of course. :D

Speaking of which, what is in those dreamies that cats love so much? I swear Florence would do anything for some of those. It seems to be the only dry food she'll eat as well! :p

Do any Bengal cat owners allow their Bengal cat owners to roam the streets?
For the record, I've never seen any Bengal cats roaming the streets where I live. If I allowed my 2 cats out, I can't believe that they would last last more than a few days without being stolen.

That's convinced me I'll never have a pedigree cat. I just couldn't keep them inside.

Zooplus;

I just realised that the bigger 400g and 800g tins are much better value, especially the mixed pack. The trouble is that Florence is a really small cat and only eats about 200g/day, maybe a little more sometimes and I like to alternate the flavours daily so that she doesn't get bored of one flavour. Maybe she can go 2 days on one flavour, I'll have to try her out.

Edit; with delivery from Zooplus I only use the Yodel option now as it tends to arrive a couple of days quicker than with parcelforce.

Yeah, the larger packs/cans work better if you have multiple cats, as most cats only like food when it is relatively fresh, the remnants of a 3 day old can in the fridge are likely to be ignored, fussy beggars!

That's because they're spoilt little so and so's! :p

Actually I never put her food in the fridge. I read somewhere that it shoudn't be served chilled for whatever reason, I forget now what that was. Tbh I don't see the need to refridgerate it anyway, once the can is open I stick it in a little sealed tub. I think the 400g tins might be OK in there for a couple of days though so I'll try them on the next order.

Here's a few from of brothers bengal cross kittens taken with my phone on Sunday;

This one is pretty blurry but I wanted to include it as you can kinda see the markings are starting to show through on the left one. Not seen a black cat with markings like hers before. She's really cool.

my maze looks black but has dark brown marking similar to that.. only visible in good light or sun tho

I think they may end up being quite pronounced with her. You can see them clearly without direct sunlight.

They're starting to loose their blue eyes now too which is a shame :) I know almost all kittens do but I was holding out hope for these since their mother kept hers.

I don't think there's any health hazards to putting food in the fridge but moost cats don't like cold food. Warmer food smells more so is more palatable to them. When we bought tins we put them in the fridge but took 2 portions out for a while before feeding time so that they warmed up to room temperature.

no a can of paint won't help in this instance it's off to the vet for you I'm afraid ;) :D:D

Also kittens eat little meals 4-5 times a day wheras an adult will usually have 2 or 3 main meals and the odd snack. Plenty of water is a must and don't feed them milk. Most cats are lactose intolerant :eek:
