FoxEye - I have 2 Maine Cooon boys of 9months and they eat a lot!! So I spend around £80 a month but that can go down a bit if I don't get the raw meat as it is quite expensive. But then they eat around 400-500g of food a day each!! I would think which ever breed you go for would be far less than this. And my boys are still growing and will do for 4 more years gulp!!
Captain Planet - Yes you can do your own raw diet but you have to read up on all the nutrients etc to add. Giving just raw chicken or meat on its own is not good, they need the extra nutrients etc. There are some great sites though on the different levels of raw meat you can do.
Ah that's good. So £30-40 a month for one cat ought to be more then enough thenThat's not so bad as I was thinking.
Oh I see. No, I was talking about pedigree Burmese, Tonkinese, Snowshoe, Singapura, etc. I can get a moggy from the same town I live in
With a breeder you know your kitty will have been socialised during the critical 2-7 week period. They will have been handled from a very early age, and view people as catsThey are more likely to be people cats. They will know exactly how much inbreeding there has been. They hopefully will have had health checks, been wormed, litter trained, etc, etc.
That's why you pay £500 and not £10You average Joe whose cat has just had kittens probably didn't even intend to have kittens! They could have any number of health problems, FeLV, etc. Huge risk.
Does anyone compost their kitty litter? I haven't seen anything black and white that you can or can't. Lots of people against, and a few for. Just wondering what the heck to do with all that poop![]()

What are people finding to be the best flea treatment? We spotted a flea on Barry a while back, treated him, treated her, treated the entire house but now they're back. I'm using Acclaim spray on carpets, beds and rugs. Just need a decent cat pill/drops and break this damn cycle!
re: Litter - put some sort of rug in front of the box?
A plain rug wouldn't do much. There are mats designed to reduce tracking, but they aren't all that effective, and worse, they can cause the cats to stop using the litter tray if they don't like the feel of the mat.
