Show us your kitty cats

Won't lie I had to google tokinese but they're really cute. My exs mum had one so soft it was untrue. She was a definite house cat :D.

Yeah, the cute factor is dialled up to 11 :p

Squeeeeeee!

I can't think of any other instance where a pet would be let loose to do as it pleases. Why are cats an exception?

I own pedigree cats and would never let them out.
If I did, they'd probably get stolen.

It is interesting that no other pet would be let out unsupervised.
If you had a dog, rabbit, guinea pig, snake, reptile, bird...etc.
You just wouldnt let it out unsupervised.
So why cats?

I dont have much respect for cat shelters. They'd much rather a cat be put down (or live in a small cage), than have a chance in someone's home, as an indoor cat. It defies logic.

Just because there indoor cats doesn't mean that they never get to go out! I take my 2 out on harnesses and you can also cat proof your back garden so they have the run of it. It is a bit stupid CP's rules and thats from someone who fostered for them, but they won't change their minds.

And the first time I took my 2 Maine Cooons out one wouldn't go more than a meter into the garden and the other one bolted straight back into the house. They are better now but only 1 of them has gone on a longish walk on the harness round the block, most of the time they just play in the garden.

I have a rescued cat and whereas she does go out it is not for long and not very far. what she does enjoy though is following me to the paper shop in the morning though she is not keen on cars. So it is the longer quieter way round which avoids a main road. Did try a harness and lead. harness no problems attach a lead and suddenly she became immobile. So she sort of walks to heel or a little ahead.

Thats amazing :)

My cat just arrived on my doorstep one evening and never went away. When I last moved he got lost for a month and ended up 10 miles away at some static caravan site.

Regardless of any of this he goes out when I get home from work and doesn't come back in till after midnight. He definitely just gets fed by all the neighbours.

Mine do the classic dawn and dusk routine, but seem to spend the day and night at home.

How do your cats try to wake you up? Oscar tries sticking his paw in my mouth or batting at my lips with his claws slightly extended. I ignore him as long as possible, but generally do get up. Feeding however waits for the actual feeding time.

I keep my cats indoors, mainly due to the area (and being close to busy city roads). When I took them to the local vets for a vac booster, a lady was being consoled for the loss of her cat to the traffic :( I'd hate that to happen to my girls

Well, finally managed to find a cat that suits both my needs and Mum's (bizarro) conditions - not allowed to be black, not allowed pointy ears, not allowed dark markings on the head, ginger with blue eyes preferred (it's a long story). My own criteria was based almost entirely on temperament. But we found something we both like...

The Australian Mist.

Part Burmese, part Abyssinian, part DSH. Very cuddle friendly, bred to be indoor only, and commonly comes with a peach (light ginger) coat. Described as "bomb proof", healthy and makes a great lap cat. Obviously, all cats are individuals but Mist cats were basically bred to be friendly, people oriented, indoor kitties (like Americans, Aussies don't let their cats outside. Understandable given the fact that 9 out of 10 Aussie critters want to eat you).

Now I just need to borrow a car to make the 600 mile round trip to the nearest breeder :p

I can't tell you how many cats we've looked at that Mum just didn't like the look of. Just about all of them :p It's amazing that we found some common ground.

i still stand by cat rehomed within a year

Based on what, exactly? If you could be a tad more constructive I could at least understand what you're so concerned about?

Failing that I'm willing to bet you £100 quid the cat isn't re-homed within a year. If you're so sure I'm unfit to keep a cat you'll take that bet - put your money where your mouth is. And all OcUK can be the witness to this bet.

My shelter cat has to be banished to the living room and the door closed as she would disturb me most of the night by hitting me with her paw or head or loud purring in the ears. I am an early riser so feeding time is 5 am and then she goes out till around 8 am where most of the time she will have taken care of her toilet requirements so saving me from a rather pungent odour not so much or urine but her solids are certainly up there. lol.
