EDIT:

Slightly cheaper one:

yup thats the one sorry missed the post.

The images are very stretched and made it look a lot wider than it actually is, mine is roughly 2ft square and 6ft tall

To those with pedigree cats: how far did you have to travel to get them?

There's more Bengal kittens for sale near me than I can count, but for anything Asian/Oriental I'm seeing nothing within 300 miles.

I'm finding it really odd the number of people who don't close their websites when they stop breeding. Or at the very least put a notice up to say they're retired. Also people who leave adverts alive when they've sold everything. Takes minutes to take an old ad offline, or put a notice on your website that you've retired.

It puzzles me why this doesn't happen, because these guys must get a ton of phone calls that they no longer want. And it frustrates buyers too. At the moment it seems that at least 50-75% of websites belong to breeders who retired. Most of them still advertising litters they had the year they retired...

/end rant :p

How many cats here have collars?
Considering not have a collar on Whiskey because he hates it and has got it stuck in his mouth a couple of times. I can't really tighten it any more and I'm worried he'll get it stuck whilst we're not around.

Thanks, sunama.

I did find some gorgeous pedigree kitties close to me in the end (about 100 miles away). I spoke to the breeder about my situation and was led to the conclusion that I simply can't have the type of social, affectionate cat that I want until I get my own place.

She said that Mists, Burmese, Snowshoes, etc, simply cannot understand or accept being left with someone who doesn't reciprocate their affection. Mum would tolerate them but never let them get too close to her. And she'd probably die if they coughed up a hairball.

Well, at least when I do get one I've already got litter, tray, food, tree, toys, blankets, you name it, I've bought it :p More incentive to get out ASAP.

Get one of the little quick release collars mate. That way if your kitty gets it caught on a branch etc it comes off rather than risk any injury to the cat. They are pressure based so even if the cat got its paw stuck in it for example the struggle to get free would release it

Went through half a dozen quick release collars on my two in a couple of months before I gave up, and they're now collarless.

As for collars, quick release where absolutely useless. I can see the pros incase he gets caught etc but if we hadn't have went back to standard buckle ones we would have never got him back when he went missing.

Neither of my 2 have collars, both are outdoor cats and hunters. One is chipped and the other due to be chipped. We used to have a collar on one, but, meh, i just don't think they do anything useful. A cat will generally tolerate a collar, but when the collar is taken off, no cat is thinking 'Oh god, please get that back on me!', so on some level, i think its cruel.

I bought a collar today but have yet to pluck up the courage to try and put it on the cat. I'm eventually going to get a magnetic cat flap as I don't want the neighbours' cats getting in the house but if the collar isn't a viable option I may have to go chip activated flap, which will be expensive, or no flap and just let it out/in when I'm around (not my favoured option).

It is a quick release one, still got it stuck in his mouth :(:p

He's calmed down now, still freaks him out sometimes. I'm going to take it off of him tonight and put it back on tomorrow, get him used to it whilst we're around.

Yes our black cat got her paw stuck in her collar once she must have limped all the way home from lord knows where :/ there was no getting it out we had to cut the collar

ginger tom "awesome cat" could get out of any collar we just gave up in the end, I think part of the problem was he was so thick set he basically had no neck it would just slide off over his head. I believe quick release collars are far safer nowadays.

We found elasticated ones to be worse, they stretch and let them slip off or get a foot under.

We use the jelly style ones now. No bother since.

Neither of ours do, hated them and Murray would howl when we put one on. We gave up when he came in distressed with it holding his jaw open. Both are chipped so the collars were binned

I am so angry and upset, feel like I may pop!!

I've had my two cats less than a year(had cats all my life) got them from Hull animal welfare trust after they were found under a car bonnet.
Edd and Ella, brother and sister always together.
nD25vD.jpg

Edd went missing on Friday, he was not in for breakfast, this is unusual as he normally wakes me for food. To cut a long story short we put up posters around the area and posted some notes through peoples doors just asking if they could look in garages and sheds in case he was stuck there. He is micro chipped but no collar as he kept losing it.
Nothing until today when i get a call from Hull animal welfare asking is i was the one who adopted Edd, I replied 'yes', and was hoping for news that he'd been found and needed picking up. She informed me he had been found but was sadly dead, he had been caught in an illegal trap:confused::mad:
I don't have all the details yet but have spoken with an RSPCA officer who is investigating in the hope of being able to prosecute. He was reluctant to give me details of where Edd was found but said it was very close to my address.
I am absolutely gutted and very very angry.
I just cannot get my head around why anyone is setting traps in a residential area other that they are just sick *****

RIP Sunshine
