Show us your kitty cats

Hi,

Our cat got in a fight 2 days ago with another cat, he has a minor cut around his whiskers area (there wasn't much blood) which is looking a bit infected now, has quite a pungent smell. Any advice, take him to the vet or just try to wash it ourselves with salt water?

He does seem a bit subdued, however, he has no problems eating lots of food & catching birds.....

Worried in case it is already infected or might form a abscess or are we just over reacting?

edit:

He doesn't seem to be cleaning that area with his paw too much, however, he is outside for most of the day so could be cleaning it excessively.....

Thanks for the advice, we will try to get him to the vet today then.

We have cleaned it anyway with some salt + water and it looks a bit better but he still seems a bit on the quiet side.

off to the V E T this afternoon for boosters.. just got the cat carrier out and while it's a big one I've realised how much they've grown. shoehorn anyone?!

Cleaning it is a good first step. If it's gone that bad, that quickly you are unlikely to get it all. The vet will likely give him an antibiotic shot which will stop a recurrence. It might sting the wallet a little, but it's better than a bigger bill a few weeks down the line...

Yeah we have just been trying to clean it with salt + water every few hours until we can get him to the vet, might not be able to get him there till tomorrow morning.

Expect that to happen as well. Not worried about the money, just the journey + vet for him (especially since he has a minor heart murmur). Both our cats get so stressed/worried when we put them in the cage and car :(

Leave the cage out regularly with the door open so they get used the to the sight and smell of it and let them sleep in it, they'll be much less stressed when you have to transport them in it. Same with the car if its possible to let them have access to it without someone taking it for a joyride.

I couldn't agree more, That's what we do with all our cats 10 in total, even the ones that live outside in the stables and the garage have their travel boxes open with bedding in them. Makes it so much easier when it comes to them vet trips. :)

Thanks for the tip :)

We will try that out, although we can't do much about the car with one of our cats since she is an indoor cat.

Just back from the vet and she didn't seem too worried about it tbh but give an antibiotic injection anyway so he should be fine. Cost £44.

He was shaking away when on the table :(

Luna decided to pee in the bath this morning :/ Not sure if it's indicative of a health issue or whether she just wanted her litter changing, which I've now done.

one of ours has a "dirty protest" if the litter trays arent 100% clean.

or he's just being lazy as the other tray up/down stairs is normally empty.
