Show us your kitty cats

My cat Millie, now 3and a half, never ceases to let me know how weird she can be.

Yesterday I used Detol's Power & pure all purpose kitchen cleaner to remove a couple of marks from my downie cover. A short while later I spotted Millie sniffing at these spots before going into her catnip style roll about in complete ecstasy movement, which went on for some minutes.

I am going to spray some place else later to see if it was indeed this household cleaner that got her going.

As I say weird.

LOL she was huffing solvents!

Not mine, but a Mist like these is hopefully my next acquisition :)

Such gorgeous cats.

They're a Burmese/Abyssinian/Domestic shorthair mix, developed in Australia to be the ultimate house cat.

Not sure about this Power one but watch out with Dettol proper it contains phenols which are very toxic to cats (and certain other animals)

Not a good idea. A lot of the kitchen cleaners and anti-bacterial cleaners have a warning specifically for cats as they are highly toxic to them.

Need some advice about cat fights. My poor boys just come in covered in blood (he probably started it) after cleaning him up there two quite deep gashes on his nose and one at the back of his neck. None are bleeding anymore. He also has a slight limp no wounds to leg/hind but doesn't appear distressed. He's as affectionate as ever.

What do you think take him to the vets now or see how he is in the morning?

(not a great pic)

Sorry for the nooby question but it's my first time cat fight wise and I'm unsure if there's anything nasty other than the wounds I should be concerned about.

Am I being overprotective and worrying about nothing? :D

Monitor the limp and salt water bathe the cuts. Seems a tough lad.

Is he new? Hopefully just sorting out territories and it is just cats

I would use some cotton wool and warm water + a tiny bit of salt to clean over the scratches/wounds every few hours and leave it for a day or so, although I would be a bit worried if he is still limping tomorrow morning and probably seek vet advice any way...

One of my cats gets into a few fights every now and then although he has only ever really had 1 or 2 bad wounds, last one was a cut around the whisker area, which looked and smelt infected, we left it for a couple of days to see if it got any better but it didn't so just took him to the vet to be on the safe side (they just cleaned the wound and give him an anti-biotic)

Yeah I'm definitly giving the vet a ring tomorrow regardless just wondering if I should call out the vet tonight. He's happily asleep now so he's not bothered. Money's not an issue just want to not waste the vets time since they're pretty good to me.

I'll stir him later and see how the limp is/clean the wound.

Thankfully the White spot I saw in the wound was fur rather than bone as it looked like first so I guess the cuts aren't as deep as I initially thought thankfully.

Thank you :).

Cats fight all the time, it's a war wound. If it starts to ooze then get it seen too otherwise cat will lick the wound all day and keep it clean and it'll heal soon :)

I'm after suggestions regarding chairs. I want to get a new PC chair as my current one is falling to pieces (generally falling apart, though the cats have clawed the sides of the back).

Any suggestions for detterring the cats from scratching a new one? I know there are sprays you can get to deter it but i don't want to use them, I like my cats in my room :) I have a few scratching posts around the house as well.

Any suggestions?

The scratches should generally be OK. It is puncture wounds from bites you have to keep an eye on. They are sometimes hard to see because they are so small but can quickly turn into an abcess and be very painful. Try and identify which leg he is limping on and give it an inspection. Generally a getle squeeze on all areas will help to identify if there is pain or swelling. Ours have had to have infection squeezed out of bite wounds a few times. It makes them yowl but it has to be done. It is suprising the amount of puss and blood that can build up inside a single puncture wound

Cat saliva is full of bacteria so generally any vet will tell you not to allow a cat to lick any open wounds because of the risk of infection (our vets have always said that anyway). Our little men have spent plenty of time in head cones, bless :p

Whatever it was that turned her loopy it was not the Dettol as she has shown no interest when I have used it since. But i have discovered that not all Catnip is created equal. Bought a bag of cheap stuff from Dofos which really floats her boat send her really daft.

Stopping cats scratching is a tricky one I have a post that mine makes a bee line for at every opportunity but on occasion she will scratch at a spot just near the door and I think this is purely for devilment as she does not do it often just enough to keep it looking a mess.
