Show us your kitty cats

Thanks for the kind comments.

I just can't describe the pain that I am going through and really don't know how I am going to get through this, I can't tell you how much he meant to me in this life... I always knew there was a risk of him getting knocked down with being an outdoor cat but I never thought it would have happened this soon and he seemed to have so much road sense. I can't stop thinking of all that I could have done differently yesterday...

He was a neighbour hood cat, all the neighbours just loved him, he couldn't have had a better life as a cat.

@Kronos, I have the big version of the Sureflap one. My cats appreciate the extra size as we had a normal size flap once and they were a bit dubious about using it. Took it out and fitted a large one and they loved it and earlier in the year swapped again to the Sureflap. It's a quality bit of kit and has a curfew mode as well so you can set the time you want to stop them going out as well as all the normal modes. It doubles up as a nice windows for them to look out of as well!!

Fitting was easy enough. All you need is a drill, jigsaw, tape measure and a screwdriver.

@Nexus18. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. He was a lovely looking cat. I just don't know what I would do if anything happened to either of mine.

sorry for your loss Nexus18 cant imagine how i would cope without Zoey, looks like you have a fine collection of memories tho mate, at least he didnt suffer.

Out of interest did the driver stop?

Tried really hard to get my two big cats to get used to the sure flap but the clicking it makes when it locks/unlocks scared them. Took it off in the end as they were just refusing to go in/out.

Nexus18, I'm so sorry :(

Looked at that and rearly like the look of that but a 100 quid is a bit much. Looking at the Large Staywell electromagnetic one. Which gives me the size and is half the price of the Sureflap.

We think he was blind sided by a parked car and he mustn't have seen the car coming that hit him, the annoying thing is he always avoided that road unless it was midnight or very early morning when there were little to no cars.

Pretty sure the driver didn't stop as his other owner (he was cared for by myself and them the most, essentially 2 homes) saw him from his bedroom window lying on the road, they then rang us straight away and he was still really warm so it must have literally just been a few minutes that it happened before.

Thanks again for the comments, they really help with the griefing process. Just can't describe how heart broken we are.

Nexus - while circumstances are of course different I'm aware of the pain and the grieving you're going through. Just before Easter we lost our cat "Spike" due to old age (he was 18 and a half) and I'm only too aware how quickly they become members of the family.

All I can add is try to remember the good times you and TC shared over five years - RIP TC :(

Leading on from my above thread I thought I'd share another shot of Borris - at ten weeks old Tyskie and Borris have been with us for about 24 hours now and they're both settling in well:

This is George who's almost 2 years old now, we got him and his brother Olly as kittens but unfortunately we lost Olly last year from an rtc.

Then after many months of trying to convince the other half to have another cat to which she refused she suddenly decided 3 weeks ago that she wanted another kitten. So here's 13 week old Millie. She's already made sure George knows who's the boss :)

RIP little buddy... I still haven't recovered from losing our 18 month old to a car 3.5 years ago

I've never met a single cat owner who kept outdoor cats that didn't lose at least one to a car accident.

18 months is no age at all. Bella is about that age now. I wouldn't forgive myself if I let her out and she got run down.

Well I had two and they never had a car accident.

I am the same, mine have never had any problems with traffic but fortunately I do stay on a quiet is street.
I think it is just a cruel to confine a cat who is desperate to get out within the home.

My rescue cat came from a home where she never ever went out. When I got her she was two and a half years old and about six months after we had her she followed me into the garden and never looked back. Goes out early in the morning and pops back for a spot of breakfast before heading back out.
But yes some cats are quite happy to remain indoors.

But yes some cats are quite happy to remain indoors.

Some like to spend a lot of time indoors but I believe every cat likes to go outside when they want to.

If every indoor cat owner left their doors open, I really doubt their cats would remain in the house for too long :)

That is not a dig - it is just a simple fact. Cats are outdoor animals. They didn't evolve to be predators by remaining indoors their whole life. They have great hearing and claws and sharp teeth for a reason.

Sure, we can remove that choice by forcibly keeping them indoors but it does not change the fact they are still an outdoors animal.

Unfortunately, outdoor cats face greater risks but I have always felt they lead fuller lives - even if that life is short.

I suppose I have always felt you gotta let cats be cats, even if it breaks your heart.

TC was killed last night, knocked down by a car, think he died on sudden impact.

Can't believe it... I'm just devastated, life isn't ever going to be the same now, he was the most important thing to me in this world and he was only 5 years old, he got the all clear from the vets only a few weeks back too, why does life have to be so ****.
