Show us your kitty cats

If my kitty weren't such a lil mug, always spending time with the neighbours eating the scraps that are given to him, then I'd probably be able to get a few decent shots of him haha

Guess who went to the vets on Friday to get his nads stolen?

As you can see, he wasn't too worried about it sat outside the vets, waiting for them to open

Had to come home with the cone of shame. :D

He was soon bouncing about like a loon though, and spent this afternoon "helping" me pack for moving with Lola

Bruce needs a new coller imo. that one looks a bit girlie, might i suggest..

Look at the eyes and left paw, that's impending pounce to the face!

Yes, usually at 3am. He's still bloody trying to suck on my neck thinking I'm mummy with milk. Hope he grows out of it soon, I do keep stopping him, but he doesn't seem to get the hint. It's like he's in a trance!

Haha. It's purple with white spots. I was trying to find a purple and green one. Dave has a red one, Lola has a pink one, and so I settled on the purple one so they were all different. He's virtually outgrown it now though, so I shall bear your suggestion in mind :D

One of the last pics I took of our we kitty who was put to sleep during the week. Cancer had got the better of her and at this point she was quite weak and had lost interest in life. Fantastic wee cat and huge part of our family for this last 10 years. Our son who is only 8 was gutted at her going but thankfully we've plenty of pics and memories of the better times.

Made me shed a (manly) tear. Animals are so wonderful, I never could understand people who don't embrace them.

A friend of mine said something similar - "I don't trust people who don't like animals." Quite true.

Sorry for your loss :(

Yup... my animals are a confirmation to me whether the friends I've made are true friends.

Even the ones who claim not to like cats (ie, dog lovers)... the cats are much better at sensing their energy than I am...

Still need to sort out insurance for our awesome cat. I spoke to the vet we use in the shop and he was saying petplan isn't what it used to be, comparing it to the RAC or something.

More than are quoting £8 or and and petplan about £15 per month.

Having never insured an animal is it normal to have to pay, submit a claim form and then be reimbursed? Petplan seem to have an option to pay the vet directly, how does that work? (they keep the cat hostage until paid???)

We have a mainecoon type cat and trust me that thing would be on the floor in ten minutes flat.
He is a big cat and if he jumped from the top to the bed below to the left in the picture that thing would be over in seconds.

Another thing I don't get the centre of gravity on that, it seems all over the gaff.

My mainecoons are about 7.5 kg + and they are not even a year old and they run up and down the tree with ease , the tree would never topple over , if you saw it you would see why it does not fall over

I know many mainecoon owners and breeders that have this tree and had no problems

Yes that's normal, when I had a bill for over a grand for Lola, the vets knew I was with petplan, I put a claim form in, and then petplan paid the vets back directly. I think it's when it gets to a certain amount (I think mine was £500) as not many people have access to that kind of money just like that, whereas the vets can survive for a week or so without the money. Petplan then paid out in less than a week (bill ended up over a grand!)

Shout if you want a referral to petplan and I get you two months free :)

I don't even have to do any of that at my vets because I'm with pet plan. If they have anything done I just tell them to stick it on the insurance if I want. I pay nothing to the vet and wall out. They then contact pet plan and do all the work for me. I think maybe just a signature is required.

Can someone point me to something definitive about how long cats need to be kept in when you move?

I'm moving in the next couple of weeks, and want to know what the best thing to do is. Bruce won't be going out until after I've moved (other than the garden like he does now) but how long should I keep Dave and Lola in?

I'm moving from a one bed to a three bed, so they'll have much more space, plus they'll have access to the conservatory where they can see their new garden.

Any help would be fab. Never done this before as they were kittens when I got them and have only ever known my flat now.

I can't point to anything definitive as every cat is different.

For us, we have always gone on a two week rule of thumb. Give them two weeks to settle in, explore the new house and get their 'smell' on things so they feel comfortable and secure.

Then once we are happy they are settled, we will leave the back door open and go out into the garden so they can see that we are there and come out to us if they wish. Kind of like reassurance.

We then take it from there, generally they will be timid at first and stay relatively close but cats are gonna cat, and eventually they will be exploring and going off on high adventure! :D

Two to three weeks seems to be the general consensus to give enough time for your new place to smell like home, at least to the cats!
Its not easy as cats used to going outdoors tend to go a bit nuts at being kept in after the first few days.
In the first week or two be very careful with windows - leave one open too far and the little escape artists will be out as soon as you turn your back!

Most definitely! Totally forgot about this.

One of ours nose dived out of an open 1st floor window one night!!

Crazy animal! :p

Fortunately I think he had the sense to jump diagonally across to the sloped lower section of roof over the kitchen extension (about 6' over from the window).
