Show us your kitty cats

Flat cat.

Swordfish, if I didn't know you lived in Scotland I'd accuse you of being the owner of the massive grey & white cat that prowls out neighbourhood and scares the **** out of my two ginger ninjas!

We don't know if it's a boy or girl cat. But we call it the King of Cats.

Looks just like Skye :D

Def not my baby - Skye is an indoor cat. Although he is a big cat he is scared of his own shadow. Wont go out of the house but just sits in the vestibule watching the world go by, unless a bird flies down which means he turns tail and hides in the bedroom.

Ok guys think I'm gonna get myself a kitten....

Can someone give me a checklist of what to get? We are first time cat owners so be gentle :)

Ta!

(btw cable tidys are already on the list :p)
Also one thing to bare in mind the cat is going to need some form of entertainment during the day when we are both at work

If you are going to be both at work during the day then I'm afraid a kitten is really not your best choice.
It really does need company for the first few months of it's life - it is simply not fair getting a "cute kitten" only for it to be left on it's own for 8hrs or so every day.

In your situation you would be best suited to a cat around 6months old to a year.
Still young enough to be very playful, but also a lot more comfortable about being left on it's own.
After 3-4 weeks you could start leaving him/her outside while you are at work - giving it plenty to do.

After 3-4 weeks you are unlikely to be leaving a kitten outside, so again it's just going to spend far too much time on it's own shut in a house.

Pop along to your local rehoming centre and find yourself a 6-12 month old cat - a lot fairer all around.

That's cool...I was beginning to think that anyway. Just need to find a cat that will accept the dogs really!

So, what do I need to buy?

I've got down:

Food
Cat litter + tray
Scratch post
Small toys

Anything else? :)

Definitely echoing what stoofa has already said. 6month+ ... don't forget insurance (around £10pm). Consider a cat flap. I bought a SureFlap (£90ish) which is activated by her chip in her neck. Awesome piece of kit. She can come and go as she pleases without worry of the neighbourhood bully finding his way into the house.

Water bowl or just leave the tap dripping like we do....

btw a note for you buy a cat litter box rather than just a tray. They keep the smell down immensely.

Maybe a bed/basket so he/she has somewhere familiar and "safe" to sleep (either that, or your bed!) ;)

RE: Cat getting on with dogs

Your local rehoming centre should be able to help with that.
Our local centre is a place called Woodgreen.
The majority of their cats go through "test meetings" with other cats and also dogs.
It's not a perfect solution - but usually they can tell you if the cat is likely to get on with dogs or not.

Of course it's then down to your dogs to get on with the cat :)

Took me bloody ages to get one with them both in!
Two boys age 8 and a half weeks, lee van cleef the one with the white line running up his face and

the other one is clint eastwood.
They're favorite spot at the moment is on top of my 200mm intake fan on desktop.

And my newfie who is a gentle giant but cant be near the kittens unsupervised as she is clumsy and could easily squash the kitties by standing on them or sitting on them even tho they she thinks they are her children!
