Show us your kitty cats

"So this shower, hot on the left and cold on the right?"

Dear Mistress of the House

Please note that walking in front of me, stopping to look back and then doing the same thing 2 seconds later slows down the vital procedure of adding your food to a bowl and placing it in front of you. It is also a safety hazard first thing in the morning when the staff have not yet consumed that essential first coffee of the day.

Yours sincerely

Has anyone had one of those Cat DNA tests done that shows the origins of the cat? If so what are your thoughts on them? The "kittens" are continuing to grow and Oscar in particular is larger than all the adult cats around here. He is massive yet is only 9 months and two weeks old!! We know the mother is a black domestic short hair and she was very young and small. What we don't know is what the father was as the mother got out one day and the next thing they knew she was pregnant. They were from a farm out in the sticks near New Blythe in Aberdeenshire and that is one of the areas that Scottish Highland Wildcats can be found so I have this nagging in the back of my mind that the father may be one of those. I have certainly never seen kittens grow as fast and as big as they have in the six months that we have had them. For £62 I could potentially discover their lineage. It makes no difference one way or another because I love them to bits and nothing will change that, it will just settle my curiosity.

Is anyone aware of particular illnesses impacting cats at the moment? Ours has been at the vet for 48hrs with abdominal pain but all the tests have come back negative. He seems to have stabilised but it’s very weird.

We're visiting an ex-breeding Maine **** cat this weekend with a view to adopting it. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for?

She is being neutered next week, has been heart scanned, and is up to date with vaccines. She's 4 years old, and has reached the end of their breeding life.

The breeders are based in London, and advertise their kittens there, but this cat is in Scotland which seems a little odd but all seems good with the conversations done so far.

In an ideal world, we’d get a rescue but we have a dog so no charities will consider us. Despite how cat friendly he is. So, looking at adopting an older cat as we don’t want a kitten and giving a nice easy life to an ex breeding cat seems nice.

Question as I am reading conflicting information. I have an adult (4 year old) ginger male moggy, who the vet has said is overweight. He started on wet food only but I gradually got him onto a mix. Wet in the morning then dry for the rest of the day. He has one 85g pouch (Perle Gourmet) in the morning, then we just top up with dry food (Amazon Lifelong currently) as he goes, which is no doubt the problem.

If a normal active adult cat has a pouch in the morning and the dry states 50g a day, how much dry food should I be giving him? I'm also thinking of moving him totally onto dry food which will make things easier!

What is classed as a full days worth of that gourmet food? I.e. how much of a full day's worth is 1 of those packets?
If its half his day then you just halve the dry food to 25g.

Sometimes some food lists different amounts depending on the natural build of the cat I.e. target weight 3kg = 2 packets but 4kg = 2.5 packets etc

It will also depend on if he's indoor and less active or outside and more active etc

I took our "kittens" Oscar and Cleo up to the vets to get them weighed yesterday so I could get the dosage right for worming them and getting the correct spot on flea treatment. They are 10 months old tomorrow and Cleo is 4.62kg while Oscar is a whopping 5.26kg. They are not overweight and are nice and healthy. The vet actually had to look at their records to check their age because they are so large!! Poor little Abby, our other cat who is 14 years old in a couple of months is only 3.95kg and dwarfed by these terrors. Ozzy has started hunting now and must have finally found the fields as he is bringing home voles, shrews and mice, usually alive so that's some daily fun for me trying to catch them. He has largely given up on sticks but Cleo has taken up the mantle and is bringing them in now. She brought one in yesterday and we couldn't find it until the wife put her slippers on with a ouch, wtf is that. :D

This was them back at the end of July last year and both of them easily fit here. Excuse the poxy phone camera.

As they grew I replaced the top part of that cat tree with a bigger round bed and even one of them barely fits now. This is Cleo.
