Got my 1st car:

'10 plate Suzuki sx 4 1.6 diesel. Thanks to all who recommended insurance tips in thread I made. Already done 450 miles this week (by the end of today :o ).

Only issue is the gearbox is pretty naff and doesnt pull easily into 1st/2nd gear. Seems to be fine once the engine is hot tho? (any ideas?). Its been like this since 0 miles old however.

only thing I would do there is get the gearbox oil changed for a good quality oil and put some slick 50 in with it. just to be on the safe side.

Must be I guess, advert looks to have been listed last month, you'd think the previous owner would have cancelled it, he must be sick of the calls by now :D

Slick 50 does naff all, its snake oil. Plus I don't think they even make it for manual transmissions anymore.

Gearbox oil change I agree with though, maybe. :)

The dealer had my Audi's ad up until 2 weeks ago (that's 2 months after sale), but with ***SOLD SOLD SOLD*** in the title.

It's a ****** way to attract customers IMO (they look at the ad and then on to the dealer's site for more cars).

The water temperature gauge on the E46 is extremely inaccurate. Whatever is classed as "operating temperature" and the needle will sit in the center, however go 1 degree over that and you're into the red zone, there's no sliding scale.

The E46 M3 one won't always be dead in the middle. It should never be beyond the middle marker though, but will often sit slightly below dead centre. All the research I have done since owning it has lead me to this conclusion and others confirming the same. 2x indies and the M3 dealer said this was their finding too. It will fluctuate between the 2 white dots in the 0-50% region of that area.

I don't know if it's different on the non M E46 though.

I know it's not an E46, but it's made from bits of E46 so TIOLI.

My Z4's water gauge is seemingly accurate before 50%, but once up to temperature is always bang on the 50% mark. Thankfully never tested past this marker yet.

Likewise on the E9x M3, although mine is oil temperature rather than water. On a relaxed motorway jaunt it sits just under halfway and when being driven hard it goes just over. Never owned a non M E9x so couldn't comment if this is usual behavior, although I believe in those versions it's an MPG gauge rather than oil temp.

Believe the water gauge on the non M E46 will sit in the center for a variety of temperatures, actual temp can be tested using an OBDII reader (found a forum post saying the E36 sits in the same spot for a variation of ~30F, should imagine the E46 is similar). Would be surprised if the oil temperature gauge didn't fluctuate in the M3 however.
