Hi there

I went for a 2008 car myself for a couple of reasons, the early cars had very spikey handling, in 2002 it was somewhat improved, in 2004 the cars got the major facelift, 17" wheels and a major suspension update but the effect was a somewhat softening, of the car and as such a lot of S2000 purist complained.

Supposedly the later cars I believe 2008 regained the sharp handling due to re-locating the rear arms on the chassis, details of the changes are out there, S2Ki is one of the best information sources but in short Honda manage to restore the sharpness of the 1999 cars but with the safety of the 2004 cars, in short after eight years they found the perfect balance, plus as added security 2008/2009 cars came with traction/stability control, but alas there are talk that 2009 cars are more prone to engine issues.

Prices are moving upwards, the car I paid 14k for last March is worth circa 18-20k now.

If you want a perfect example then this is a good but over priced purchase:

The older and higher mileage you go, the better the cost gets and with the S2000 the real guidance is buy on condition, lots of tatty examples about unfortunately and they are rather rust prone in rear arches so always look out for that.

Thanks for the extra info. That red one you linked is several thousand over priced. There are two others in the country same age and condition with 10k more miles on both for £4k less. They are only charging that extra money because its probably the lowest mileage s2000 for sale anywhere!

@grudas that blue is stunning!

Such good cars, would love to have another one day. I had a 2007 in moonrock which was beautiful. Handled superbly on the road and track and you could really wring it out on the road. Taking the air box lid off was my only mod and it sounded brilliant. Everyone has to experience that gear change once in their life!

I just can't believe how much in price they've shot up, If i'd have known they'd shoot up that high I would have went for one instead of the Z4 3.0i i had 7-8 years ago, least they were "reasonable" money back then.

A two-seat NA convertible Honda which revs to 9000RPM was only ever going to go up in value to be fair.

Anything that was epic in Gran Turismo is going up in value. If I had invested my house deposit 11 years ago on two to three choice cars I would have been mortgage free today........... Then again I would have been a millionaire if I had invested it in bitcoin.

Haha. Yes I often think about the time I passed on r34 gtr for 32k thinking it's silly.. wasn't that long ago either and insurance would've killed me but I could afford that amount back then with a top up loan :o

If only if only if only :(

Porsche 964 Turbos were around £30k ten years ago, now look at them.
Ferrari 348s were a similar price 5 years ago, now look where they are.
Same with 968 Clubsports, etc.

I remember when you could buy a Lamborghini Countach LP5000 for about £60k. That was in 1999 ish if I remember correctly.
How about a Lotus Carlton for £10k? That was around the same time. Eprits were peanuts too.

25k on a s2000 is hard to swallow really when even stuff like a E92 M3 with a very similar engine but just better in every way a a car is available ( no top down but that was never its appeal for me)

I really need to get mine back on the road. Think it hasn’t moved in 2.5years

Worth spending some money on it to get it road ready and then sell it to recoup the cash and more, it’s a shame to just leave it to waste away.

The BMW S65 V8 generates maximum power at pretty much the same RPM as the F20C too…

Agree with @Gibbo What would need doing on your S2000 to get it back on the road? Prices are very strong at the moment.

Nowadays Esprit maintenance & repairs alone would cost you big money! They are very specialised cars if you keep as a garage queen hardly ever using it seals dry out & leaks develop in hard to access places (most will by now need their petrol tanks replacing or refurbishing due to leaking rear window seals allowing rain to enter which is an engine out job usually).

Then just std services every 6K miles depending on the model (V8 most expensive to run & maintain) the parts & labour charges alone will be around £2K minimum. If you neglect them the repair bills can run deep into tens of thousands its why I think they are very rare on UK roads now most sit in garages of wealthy collectors few actually use on the roads anymore some parts are also very hard to find so expect even bigger bills tracking them down.

That is how Lotus kept the relative sales price down back in the day using cheaper materials & components.

Lovely cars (I used to own one!) but the running costs are extreme.

I don’t understand the use of ellipsis here ? What do you mean ?

I’m always very misty eyed about the F20C generating it’s power at such high revs and the S65 has very similar characteristics which I’ve not experienced. I agree that as the two start to overlap in price it’s hard to argue the S2000 as a complete package over the M3, so I agree with you! Wasn’t meant to be so cryptic, sorry!

Yeh it was a bit like goldeneye on the N64 when I went back to it. Feels a bit lacking with half the cylinders too

Maybe I’m old but it is noisy and rattly. Handling is where it excels really and they have aged well in looks which is why they command such a price.

Possible stupid question in bound... When using snow foam, do you just spray it on and leave it? No brushes?

Snow foam is considered a pre wash, and you generally want it slightly runny so that it falls off the car, taking any dirt with it. It’ll then make it easier to clean with a normal wash
