The guy I sold my S5 to said that at the time, it was a bit cheaper to fly over from Northern Ireland, pick my car up and drive it back, due to how few decent cars there are in NI. Is it the same in Ireland?
I think it must be car dependent as I had a friend who'd swear by flying over there and bringing cars back! To be fair that was a C63 6.2 so may have been different.

Yeah, it's slim pickings for decent cars here and, while it was expensive enough before Brexit to import a car to Ireland with our VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) it's got worse since Brexit because on top of that you've got VAT & Import Duty to pay too. I think if a car is VAT qualifying in the UK a dealer can sell it VAT-free if it's being exported but some won't or others will want proof it's been exported before refunding the VAT.

I did, however, import a JCW back in May which worked out about €3k cheaper than buying one of the 2/3 for sale here at the time (and better spec'd, too, but there was no Import Duty payable on it as it was built in Oxford)

I booked a no noise limit track day at Donny a while back, ideally i would have taken the Nascar but it was raining and i had it in bits anyway. I only really had one car i could take.

797 bhp, rwd, American tank in the wet ... it suprisingly did ok but Donny when wet is a disaster due to the airplane fuel stuff laying on the track so grip was somewhat limited, still touch 129 down the back straght comming easy out the corner.

I Ran in 500bhp mode for a lot of the morning getting used it it, the front end had a suprising amount of grip, suspension kept to street to keep it soft for the wet.. Brake fade was a problem after say 15 min stints and would likely be a lot worse in the dry. I will get some better pads and fluid if i do it again. As soon as you put it to track mode 797 and gearbox to track its so much more snappier, like driving a compeltly different car but it was so much more fun and alive.

That back straight is great for seeing what a car can do on a relatively short straight, I've logged all my cars:

600 LT = 150mph (590HP)
458 = 144mph (560HP)
GT3 = 136mph (475HP)
Exige 410 = 126mph (400HP)
Caterham 420R = 121mph (210HP)

Cannot remember what my old C2S and M3 (E46) did but it was older layout, but both were circa 125mph, all dry times.

The Dodge looks great, am surprised you aint got yourself a C8.

That is such a cool looking car. Love the colour as well

Some serious speeds there, I’d love to go back in the dry where there was some traction , it was real touch and go and going over the bump down there was a bit of a nervy thing to

The c8 I like but only the Z06, the rear quarter is a disaster otherwise, they are just to much with import fees and tax. Also the reason for this car is being able to take the kids. Which it does very well .

Absolutely the best school run car ever! :D

Nice. Thoughts so far?

Well I've only really driven it back from Daventry, but first impressions are great! The engine has woken up and the gearbox is quicker and more aggressive without being harsh. Needs a proper drive to put it through its paces, and ideally another track day next year when the weather improves as I've not really played about yet as I was/am still bedding in the new brakes.

Went with a mate in his TCR, which is now bonkers fast.

It was badly in need of new discs all round and the front pads were nearing EOL, so went with a VBT hooked discs and Racingline pads combo from Awesome GTI that I had my eye on and was reduced by £110 in the Black Friday sales so I picked them up and figured I might as well get it lowered (spacers are coming) at the same time so also picked up an Eibach Pro spring kit. :D

In the new year it'll have an oil change along with diff and gearbox fluid changes and braided lines and new brake fluid. Then I'll be done for a while. Depending on how it handles I might do the anti roll bars in the summer.

i've had some very sideways moments out the corner before that (coppice?) nice when you get it right though, in the wet the atom isnt a fan of the bump :(

never heard of or seen "hooked" discs before, what's that all about ?

Better initial bite and heat dissipation. The hooked/grooved gap also allows dissipation of gasses that form a barrier between the pad and disc (similar to drilled disks bit without the cracking issues they can suffer when pushed hard), Hooked are also less noisy than grooved apparently. Least that how I read/understand it. (I'm sure there is someone here more knowledgeable that could go in to greater detail/correct me if wrong)

They also look better than the stock plain discs. :cry:

After F1 Autocentre made a mess of my alloys fitting new tyres (damage to the outer face, and I've since found out the barrels and inner lips also had damage), I've just picked it up from the detailers post refurbishment. I'm glad I had very little resistance from F1 in agreeing to pay for the wheels to be refurbed, although payment is apparently 'in progress'.

Lovely, making me miss the F80 M3, just a bit. :o

I've sold the other Rolls Royces, and this is the only one left, mainly because it was in by far the worst condition. Over the last couple of months, it's had an issue where it would start and immediately die. I haven't had time to look at it myself, but I had various supposedly experienced mechanics check it over, they all agreed that it was fuel related, so we had the carbs rebuilt which did absolutely nothing. I got tired of it sitting at the back of our land and after watching a few episodes of Vice Grip Garage, thought I'd swap out the coil, as it seemed to solve a similar issue on a 60s American car he was fixing up, and I happened to have a good one lying around from one of the other cars I'd sold.

Changed it myself on Thursday, took it for a 2hr drive today to get dinner and a few drinks and it did great. Not bad for a notoriously unreliable car that's almost 50 years old.
