Show Us Your Motors!

2006 WRX wagon. Only mod so far is an intake and stage 1 OTS ecu flash...

Just changed the spark plugs today and it took me a little over an hour. I used to be able to do it in under 5 minutes on a honda :/

Well usually when you pass you see people in my area running around in 1.1 Corsa's with body kits on them looking like crap, so getting straight to a Golf GTI is pretty cool, I know 2.0 isnt massive but its not easy to jump straight into a 2.0 car after you pass your test with all the insurance restrictions and bills. I know that the 2.0 Petrol Mk 4 is only 115 bhp but it definatly isnt a slow car when you drive it, and remember this is my first proper car. Getting the back box to change the sound of the car more than anything, it has a great little peforming engine but has a very small turned down exhaust so you cant hear it. The new back box will definatly add to the car as the rest of the body looks great, just that crappy little twin exhaust it has now.

And again, believe me this Golf is a nippy little car, just because it has 115bhp doesnt mean exactly that its as slow as a dog. The last car I drove before it was a Turbo 1.8 Focus and this Golf mops the floor with it especially when picking up speed despite having lower bhp, it really is a little flyer, its like glue round corners to, I love it. Not to mention they are so reliable and safe, lovely sound system to in it ^_^.

We did try to get the Golf remapped but without a turbo we couldnt really have got much out of it, these cars I get will change every few months so I enjoy them while I can. The next car we are looking at is likely to be either a Turbo Diesel Golf which we can remap or maybe an Astra SRI Turbo or something like that, I have heard some bad things about the SRI Turbos biting the dust though so I am not sure, I hear the Turbo overheats a lot in them.

Engine size is largely irrelevent though, especially as this particular car has 114bhp, which is about the same as most 1.6 litre engines.

It's a nice enough car, but I'd just be happy with it for what it is rather than thinking it gives you 'bragging rights' for being 'a 2.0'. It's like me saying I have bragging rights for passing my test and jumping right into a 1.9 TURBO. But it was a 92bhp diesel :D Also why fit a backbox to a car you intend to keep for only 2 months?

Yeah by bragging rights I mean where I live people usually jump into Corsa's and Nova and bomb around town like idiots, so jumping into a nice little car like this for my first proper car is great. A lot of people in my area were suprised that I could go straight to a 2.0 car rather then getting stuck with a little Nova or something and not have to worry about the insurance. I am not a big head about it though as I am pretty lucky that I can get great insurance, I know that people work hard for their cars its just in the town where I live when everyone is boy racing around the docks and McDonalds it makes a nice change to have a nice little car.

The back box is just a great cheap upgrade to make the car look a little better, we are thinking about getting it lowered by 40mm also as the Mk 4s tend to look a little like a tractor at stock :p but leaving the body as it is, we are just making subtle changes to really improve the look and feel of the car as it will likely go after Christmas. My dad didnt pay much for the car so these additions are a great little upgrades and we can also make quite a bit of money after Christmas.

Me personally though I dont own a car, I just get the benifit of using one of my dads with unrestricted insurance, the catch is however that they are obviously up for sale and can go any time, the other plus side is however that we can get some nice cars in.

But I am really happy with the Golf so far, I was suprised how low the bhp was at first but really cant stress enough how great this little car is, so responsive with the clutch and accelerator, it really holds its own and I would love to keep it longer. Take it this way after driving about 10 cars already within 3 months of learning and 1 month of proper driving ranging from tiny Seats to a big Merc I would still rather have this car despite it only being 115bhp, still I can understand why people would be cautious of the low bhp, but once you drive one you will forget about it and think you had more than enough power. Plus there are no motorways or long roads really where I live so I cant give it a good boot very much :D

Still learning a lot about cars though as like I say I have only been driving 4 months so I will probably get in a Supra or an Evo and think my Golf was a peddle and pop :p

Lol I was just thinking the same MrLOL he sounds a bit like me when I first passed and my 90bhp 1.6 Astra was a 'rocket ship' and could have 'most things on the road'

It was far more of a case of me driving like a tool and everyone else just driving normally :p

Post a pic of the Astra, that picture :p

Uhm I have never said it was fast, just havent said its slow either, I love driving it. I believe my words were that the car is nippy which it is, that doesnt mean I am going to become Senna and rule Formula One, maybe back off a little. I am 24 by the way, pretty grown up...Sure I havent been driving long but hey we have to start somewhere. I think a few people here are being quite rude to be honest and taking things a little seriously.

When I first passed I thought my Civic 1.5 SOHC had "some" VTEC because over 4000rpm there was a noise......turns out the noise of epic failure :p

Edit*
I want to see ASTRA pic, NAO!

Looks like Dominor is practicing his salesman skills rather than telling us about his car. Hard to believe he's talking about the same car I drive daily.

N42 or N46 Make your mind up! If the latter then which version? There are two! Nobody said anything about such a thing being a block of raw power though so there is no point to stand by?
