Engine size is largely irrelevent though, especially as this particular car has 114bhp, which is about the same as most 1.6 litre engines.
It's a nice enough car, but I'd just be happy with it for what it is rather than thinking it gives you 'bragging rights' for being 'a 2.0'. It's like me saying I have bragging rights for passing my test and jumping right into a 1.9 TURBO. But it was a 92bhp diesel
Also why fit a backbox to a car you intend to keep for only 2 months?
Yeah by bragging rights I mean where I live people usually jump into Corsa's and Nova and bomb around town like idiots, so jumping into a nice little car like this for my first proper car is great. A lot of people in my area were suprised that I could go straight to a 2.0 car rather then getting stuck with a little Nova or something and not have to worry about the insurance. I am not a big head about it though as I am pretty lucky that I can get great insurance, I know that people work hard for their cars its just in the town where I live when everyone is boy racing around the docks and McDonalds it makes a nice change to have a nice little car.
The back box is just a great cheap upgrade to make the car look a little better, we are thinking about getting it lowered by 40mm also as the Mk 4s tend to look a little like a tractor at stock
but leaving the body as it is, we are just making subtle changes to really improve the look and feel of the car as it will likely go after Christmas. My dad didnt pay much for the car so these additions are a great little upgrades and we can also make quite a bit of money after Christmas.
Me personally though I dont own a car, I just get the benifit of using one of my dads with unrestricted insurance, the catch is however that they are obviously up for sale and can go any time, the other plus side is however that we can get some nice cars in.
But I am really happy with the Golf so far, I was suprised how low the bhp was at first but really cant stress enough how great this little car is, so responsive with the clutch and accelerator, it really holds its own and I would love to keep it longer. Take it this way after driving about 10 cars already within 3 months of learning and 1 month of proper driving ranging from tiny Seats to a big Merc I would still rather have this car despite it only being 115bhp, still I can understand why people would be cautious of the low bhp, but once you drive one you will forget about it and think you had more than enough power. Plus there are no motorways or long roads really where I live so I cant give it a good boot very much
Still learning a lot about cars though as like I say I have only been driving 4 months so I will probably get in a Supra or an Evo and think my Golf was a peddle and pop
