Another thing worth mentioning is I don't really like the E36 anyway, I don't think it's a particularly great car to be inside of regardless of how i drives.

No car with no interior is a particularly great car to be inside

I'd quite like an E46 as a daily driver - in fact fox, as you're the bimmer man, which engine would be the one to go for if it were to be a daily driver? Based on current economy/running costs I have with the fucus (obv I know it would be more overall but hopefully not much more than say 20-30% more).

Erm, if you want only 20% more running costs than a Focus you dont want any E46.

Errrr....? Maybe your family, but that doesnt seem normal to me :p

Majority of Asian families - Politics nearly everyday. Trust me Fox it's worse then when the labour/conserv rallies take place.

If my father was still her then it would have been ok, mum can't drive so :-/.

However might team up with my cousins later on next year and get on one policy, traders if we can. But being quite young and if getting behind a wheel of a fast car, high risk.

A lot of the lads I know do it, that's why they're driving Audi S3's at age 18. But that's why our premiums in this city are also high, because of them then crashing the cars. Then they claim, and premiums increase even more.

Let me get this straight - this guy has a boggo basic Focus (which he has ruined by lowering the front and raising the back with springs from an estate) and a Max Chav E36, is looking down on everyone from an ivory tower of false self-inflated image, can't really afford it and yet is looking at a) tracking the E36 and b) buying a more expensive E46?

An, no sorry, I've been in a couple with full interior and I test drove a couple of completely stock E36 328s before I bought this one. It was quiet and refined for sure, but I prefer the E46 by a long way tbh. And considering you can pick them up so cheaply now I wouldn't consider an E36 as a daily. Personal opinion more than anything, can't really fault the E36 as such.

Understood. Perhaps next year then - will have to see how the new job goes and how much I'm earning.

The same guy who wanted to cut his spring on his focus? Asking because cba looking for the thread.

No, it means I have other things to spend my money on other than a sheadload of ridiculously over prices bang bang juice.
Combined economy on the 328i is 31 MPG. Combined on your Focus is 41 MPG.

Assuming 250 miles per week / 13,000 miles per year at £1.30 per litre we have:

328i £2478
Focus £1873

You can't spare £600 a year to drive the car you want? I thought you were rich! If you sold the Focus and didn't have to tax and insure it you'd probably save money.

I have plenty of cash thanks, I just don't want to sink every last penny into a sodding car - I do have a life outside of the driving seat an forum you know :p

It's not just fuel though, insurance, tyres, servicing, repairs will all be higher.

Certainly not higher than running 1 car vs 2 cars.

So you dont want to spend an extra £600 a year on fuel to drive a car you want every day because you have a life outside of the driving seat, but you will happily buy a stripped, caged E36 so you can learn to be a 'drifter'?

This is beginning to sound seriously weird.

Sounds like a guy with no money trying to play it up on the internet. Nothing strange about that, happens here all the time...

Ok let me see if i can clear this up.

I have a cheap focus because i only passed my test just over a year ago, aged 24. I could have got a beemer then, paid £3k for the insurance, plus other associated costs. Instead I got a cheap car because I have a life outside of the driving seat.

This includes going to watch drifting from time to time.

The focus was getting a bit dull so I thought I'd liven it up a bit with some springs but didn't want to spend a fortune so found those cheap on ebay which are going to be modded to lower the back end. As it stands it's a much more enjoyable drive. Whether it corners better - I doubt it. But it feels more engaging and more entertaining to drive. Might not be your thing, but I like it - live with that fact.

I want to get involved with drifting and spending £2,200 on a ready to drift car and the insurance isn't a large capital outlay as far as I'm concerned, for a hobby I genuinely believe I'll love and end up spending a lot of time doing.

I'm happy to keep the focus at the moment and unless it's not a particularly expensive step up then the E46 idea is just something I'll have to wait for in good time. I'd love to drive an E46 every day but it's not worth sacrificing other things for.

The extra money for an E46 isn't just the 600 a year, it's the associated costs and whilst I can afford it, I don't want to tbh.

I can see me waiting a bit longer, getting settled and secure in the new job and then probably either getting a late E46 or perhaps something else, I don't know.

Believe what you will, I haven't got to prove myself to you, or anyone.

I'm not wealthy by any means, but I certainly am not 'poor', although that depends on your definition. I imagine some will think I'm poor, other won't.

If I had a 500 BHP S15 with all the trimmings, perhaps.

I instead have a 16 year old 'chaved up' beemer.

What should I turn up in? The focus?

Can see your point, but at least it isn't a S2000 or RX7. Or even a Suuuuupra.
