Show Us Your Motors!

Shopping run?

Lose the rear window spoiler because it spoils the look :p Doesn't actually look like it's going to do anything either?

Aye, popping to the co-op at lunch for a sandwich. Brought it into work today, although back to the fucus tomorrow :( Can't afford a high mileage policy, nor the fuel for it.

Is it for trackdays? I thought the OP had bought it because he wanted to learn to drift - hence the hydraulic handbrake etc. You'll get kicked off a trackday for drifting.

Shoes where do you live?

There are regular drift practice sessions up here at Teesside.

Funny how you say can't afford a high mileage policy or fuel for it yet you've chosen a thirsty car for a motorsport which involves shredding tyres ;)

Ohh yeah and lose the rear window crap thing.

Do you not know anyone who you could just add as a named driver? Doesn't matter how often they *may* drive your car afterall

I do know people, but they're generally young. Families are never good for this kind of thing as they'll always bring it up like "WE HELPED U LOWER UR INSURANCE OK SO DO UZ THIS FAVOUR"@? kind of thing.

It was bought for drifting and for me to learn how to - although I may use it on track days if I can adjust the suspension to allow for it. I don't know much about these things but I assume the two setups would be dramatically different.

If I bought a high mileage policy I'd not have money for fuel and tyres :p

I can afford the fuel if it's not 200+ miles a week for work - I'm keeping the focus as a daily driver, although I am considering changing that for another car which is more economical, I haven't decided yet. It works fine and is a nice enough car to trundle around in, and it returns low insurance and 40mpg.

And tyres... investigating the cheapest way of getting hold of them at the moment. The car has four on it which are around 3mm - I'm actually looking online now for a full new set for it as it's pretty tail happy in the wet, more that I'd like on the road - so that'll give me 4 x tyres with 3mm on to get me started.

It came with two more of the E30 BBS wheels too with tyres on but they;re more than shot (bare wire on both covering large areas).

Is that a typo and did you mean 2000 miles a week? Because 200 is nothing

IMHO you'd have been better off selling the Focus and just buying a 95/96 spec 328i Sport (Which had an LSD as standard) with a full interior in decent condition and then just using that as your car - and for learning to become the next drift god or whatever it is :p

Where are you going to learn?

Bit stuffed at the moment as all the local drift days have finished until the new year, but I'm <1 hour from buxton which has twice monthly sessions with drift one - £20 for the day admittance/driver wristband.

Mallory park, oulton park and santapod are all < 1.5 hours away and hold regular drift practice sessions.

And also birmingham wheels is a stone throw away and hold regular sessions.

All are cheap and open to all (no drift licence req'd) so I reckon I'll find enough sessions to satisfy me and destroy my wallet.

Also, there's this industrial estate just up the road.....

I'm kid, of course.

No, 200, it's a thirsty car. Bosses are looking at properties at the park about half a mile from my house currently though which will free up money for drifting :D

No, 200, it's a thirsty car.

It's a 6 cylinder BMW - I know all about the fuel consumption. 200 miles a week in one is not hugely expensive. It's low mileage.

By selling the Focus and just using a decent E36 you could probably end up spending no more than you are now, overall, when you dont have two cars to tax, insure, MOT, etc.

I do a lot of miles outside of work too tbh, in the last year I've covered 18k, although admittedly that was a lot of stafford to weymouth runs to deal with my father's passing and the house etc, mileage which won't be applicable from here on in.

Quite happy as I am tbh, the focus is cheap to insure, despite moving to an apparently rough area, cheap to run and I can insure the mrs on it - if my car with an LSD is anything to go by then I don't really want her driving it, esp in the cold wet conditions we have at the moment.

An LSD doesnt suddenly turn it into a ridiculously tailhappy monster. If it's that bad then there is either something wrong with it, it has terrible tyres on it or its had weird suspension/diff mods specifically aimed at making it more tailhappy.

Another thing worth mentioning is I don't really like the E36 anyway, I don't think it's a particularly great car to be inside of regardless of how i drives. This one is fine for what I want it for - hell I'd consider a volvo 340 for drifting if I couldn't afford a BMW - it's just a tool. This one just happens to be rather schexy on the outside.

I'd quite like an E46 as a daily driver - in fact fox, as you're the bimmer man, which engine would be the one to go for if it were to be a daily driver? Based on current economy/running costs I have with the fucus (obv I know it would be more overall but hopefully not much more than say 20-30% more).
