So he is getting rid of what is probably a fairly nice Golf he has just spent £800 fixing because he cant afford the £90 a month in petrol it is costing him and instead leasing a Citreon C1 for £90 a month? What?

I don't think he spent anything fixing the Golf, I think that was in reference to his first car, not the Golf. The Golf is a nearly new 1.4 TSI.

1 - Has old car that is a nail which he spent £800 on in the past 12 months

2 - Got rid of nail, got free 2010 1.4 Golf TSI in early March

3 - Two weeks on decide he didn't like the Golf and cannot afford the £90 a month petrol. Parents lost jobs and decide to give Golf back and take on a £90/month lease on a Citrien C1 + petrol costs.

Am I close?
