I think a modern R610 with dual hex cores would offer better performance in 1U than that entire blade chassis. :p

(But would cost more :o)

Would probably be more energy efficient though!

It practically pays for itself! :p

Absolutely that fully populated chassis will probably consume the best part of 12-15A

Would make a good heater in the winter.

Seeing what some of you guys have posted, I tought I would post mine, but it is nothing like what you lot have posted.

Here is my current setup.

Anyone who works in DataCentres will know what thease servers are.

I am soon to be replacing them with more moden servers.

My raq3 has been powered off for a year or two now. I used to use it for storing my music on (samba based NAS) but the BIOS doesn't support decent sized hard disks for this day and age. Will have to see if there's any updates. Would be great to stick a PCI SATA card in there and a couple of 2.5" 500GB drives.

I tought my RaQ 550's where old, I think I have a RaQ 3 up in the loft somewhere.

My RaQ 550's are running at the max I could get out of them, 1400Mhz CPU, 2GB Ram, 2x 80GB in Raid-1.

Thay have done me good for what I wanted them for, but now like you, I want to store large about of data, so it's about time for an upgrade.

I am running BlueOnyx / CentOS 5.5 on them, It it possible to add a PCI sata/esata card to them, but I have no idea on drive size limit.

Haven't got any rack pictures, but have got a rather nice pic of the inert gas fire suppression system that will apparently knock you over completely (and then kill you) if you're stupid enough to stay in there after the alam goes off.

For a while our Halon system had a fault... though the warning buzzer was soo high pitched that young little 19yo me was the only one able to hear it .

halon

hmm halon nasty stuff. Many years ago a tech died in one of our datacentres as he never knew where the exits or breathing kits were .... Sometimes health and safety briefings are not all bad.

Once i was in a server room at a law firm that had those canisters (that suck oxygen out the room) and leak detection under the floor. I was told to go in and get some keyboards out of the storage cupboard and i could not see. So stupidly i took out my lighter and started to use that, good job nothing happened
