Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth - Alpha Centauri sequel announced!

Civilization: Beyond Earth launches 24th October 2014, 2K Games has announced.

If you pre-order you get the Exoplanets Map Pack. This includes six custom maps - Kepler 186f, Rigil Khantoris Bb, Tau Ceti d, Mu Arae f, 82 Eridani e and Eta Vulpeculae b - all inspired by real-life exoplanets.

Beyond Earth is a new science fiction entry in the long-running Civilization series, and a spiritual successor to Sid Meier's own Alpha Centauri, published by EA in 1999.

In the game you lead your people on an expedition sent to find a new home away from Earth. You explore and colonise an alien planet and create a new civilisation in space.

Looks a lot like Endless Legend with the new quests.

maybe im just cycnical but this to me sounds like "civ 5" with a new texture and model pack to make it on an alien world

Yeah that's my worry too. I think I'm expecting a true AC sequel and I may just come away disappointed. I hope not though.

I might try and hold off on my buying this until its a few patches in and folks have had a proper test of it.

Civ 5 while I love it now was crap at the start :(, still remember paying £35 for it and being very annoyed.

If they miss out _any_ features of SMAC it'll be hard to enjoy.

SMAC did just about everything right. The only thing I'd change would be to update the graphics, and maybe improve the AI.

Other than that, SMAC was _the_ civ game. Can't really enjoy any of the later Sid Meier branded games precisely because of SMAC.

<3 Brian Reynolds.

I got this some time again but never really played it. There's seems to be loads of people that love this game. Is it something I should sit down one evening and put a good few hours into, and also is it a game that you can sort of play for a few hours and then leave for a bit, or does it have to be played in large amounts?

Can I borrow your time machine?

Wrong thread or wrong version of the game?

This one is expected to launch in October of this year.

I think thats largely going to be the case, but maybe with some other tweaks. I'm still really looking forward to it though.

I honestly think those who are intent on making Alpha Centauri comparisons could be best avoiding it for their own mental health.

I wonder if we will be able to go from ancient all the way through to Beyond Earth? Would make for an interesting game. Colonising other planets. Either way I'm definitely looking forward to this!

finally a kind of alpha Centauri replacement. Did you know it was one of the most selling games of all time!?

No, the game definitely doesn't begin in the ancient era. It's meant to start 30 years or so into the future from where we are now.

That's sort of where Civ finishes so potentially it could run from Ancient. It would make for interesting game. A space race to colonise planets.

this is the best possible news. have the original on GOG and it's still incredibly addictive. one of those games you have to periodically uninstall because it begs for one more minute, and then another, then another. this will be awesome!
