Sigma 35mm f1.4....?!!

If it was a lens that cost half as much I'd be less bothered but this is /the/ lens I've been waiting for the good part of a year to own :o

I can't believe you would pay £42 to fix some invisible marks that only show up in certain light, at certain angles and have no perceivable impact on photos.

I paid £95 to fix a cracked barrel window that doesn't afftect lens performance in any way :p

Update!

Fixation have sent over a quote for repair of £42. It's just a stain on the front element inside according to them so this will be checked and cleaned. Happy with that price and that it's not mould or anything else.

The real mystery is how it got there though... Oh well.
surely that's got to be during manufacturing it ,i dont see how it could get there in use

The lens is too new to have reports of it over the web but yeah only thing I can think of as well. Need more people to check their models as and when they get them! Mine was one of the first as well iirc.

Surely that is a warranty issue have you approached the company you got it from about paying this repair bill even the grey importers should do that.

I had never thought of that, emailing the store now ta :d

I used Onestopdigital^

mrk, glad to hear your copy is fine! I am going to take a punt on this lens at the end of the month, have you had any issues with near and far focusing? I had nightmares with a Sigma 85 1.4 being great at mfd but out with anything over 20ft.

Also, where is the cheapest place to purchase from? (I'm not fussed about grey imports).

Thanks,
GJC.

No idea who is cheapest now but check the usual places like digitalrev, onestop, procamerashop :)

I've had no focusing issues on any Sigma lens to date. Canon L on the other hand... some microadjustment was needed!

Just to note, as I said in another thread, the £ pound has lost like 15-20% in value against the Hong Kong $ so prices will be higher than when mrk got it.

Try Kerso too, the £ is not doing as bad against the US $.

A couple of days ago the 35 was cheaper than the 85 (not by much) at Drev. I wouldn't be surprised if the UK suppliers price comes down over the next few months as supply increases.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your email.

We are happy to pay for the £42. When the repair is done, please email us the receipt, which has to show the serial number of your lens.

Thank you.

Regards,

Onestop Digital

Very pleased with this, definitely using them for future purchases!

OK, I've just read this thread again and browsed the reviews of the lens.....Wish I hadn't........

I'm really tempted to just order one right now. I only ordered my 70-300mm L a few weeks ago, but I'm feeling a litle 'Insane in the membrane'. I'm also doing Shanghai, Xian, Tokyo and Kyoto in 2 weeks time, so that's all the excuses I need to get it :D

DREV is around £610 like Onestop, mrk how long do Onestop take to get the lens here for you and do you reckon the £15 for an extra 3yr warranty is worth it?

Mine took a few days to arrive, really quick stuff. I'd take the extra warranty as it's only £15 extra. You never know! If something does go wrong over 3 years at least you know you can get it repaired locally and then get that amount sorted via Onestop.

Many thanks guys, will get an order placed!

Glad I got the TT Retrospective 7 over the 10, it's wide enough to fit this impulse 3rd lens in :D:D

It's £90 more in the UK, for that I get try it out in the shop and a 3 year UK guarantee... Decisions decisions...

Onestop are great. I ordered my 100mm L and Sigma 35 1.4 from them and both were delivered in 2 days, it went have been sooner if the UK airport was closer to me. Pretty incredible service really.

Thoroughly enjoying my 35mm, it's been permanently attached to my 5DMK3. :D
