Paul, it is a blurry mess.

I'll have it.

lol, i would find in helpful if i was toying with the notion of buying one!

Why though? People spend ages obsessing over sharpness of 100% crops when in reality they are never going to view their shots in that way. It is akin to spending time wandering which bed would be more comfortable if you put on 100lbs yes it might happen but it's unlikely and not really worth considering.

It's subjective, even the ones not pin sharp can be with a little USM in post. Resized for web though it matters little.

This, for normal print or web use at normal viewing distances everything in this thread is sharp enough.

another quality thread turned into a sharpness at 100% debate, all the pics are plenty sharp enough for normal viewing/printing comparing 100% crops is just pointless nit picking.

If I remember rightly we were comparing normal viewing not crops :) and no they are not all plenty sharp enough. For example I ended up sending my Tamron back because it was nowhere near the sharpness of my stock lens and yet it was £200 more expensive!

If I buy an expensive lens I expect quality sharpness and clarity, it is as simple as that

Pixel peeping is not a thing to get started with. A few months ago I had a bad case of this syndrome. I'm OK now though and tend to not worry so much! At the end of the day no one is going to be looking at your photos at 100%.

I have bought the USB dock for my Sigma 35mm. After adjusting the lens with it over the weekend I'm even more pleased with the lens. It's simply an incredible lens with such character.

In all fairness the Sigma is about £400 cheaper than the Canon equivalent and a grand cheaper than what you could spend on a Nikkor 35mm f/1.4.

Most of the sharpness issues come down to the fact you have to be very careful with focusing when wide open as it's very easy to miss the spot and I expect some micro adjustment is required with some bodies. You get good and bad copies like with all lenses too.

Pretty much exactly this. I've been lucky in that my Sigma lenses have not needed any micro adjust on my camera although the feature is there to be used so if I did that wouldn't have been an issue
either :)

Must be my eyes then, nothing in this thread looks to have undue softness issues to me :)

mine is front focusing a little..

going to have a play with the use dock

any advice. is it just trial and error?

And off it goes to Sigma HK for servicing!

Turnaround is said to be 1-2 weeks and I have a clear calendar this month so this could have not fallen on a better month.

Did you send it to HK to get it done under warranty? What was the Fixation quote?

I still like the look of this lens, the 18-35 for the crop seems staggering but next year I will go FF so pointless. Lens tin is almost full, either one of these or replace my 17-55 with the 24-70 in prep for next year. Decisions :D

I won't though import as the 3 year warranty looks worth more than the saving.

Fixation didn't give a quote as they said check with Sigma UK first (who quoted me £90~).

I've sent it to HK though under warranty, I expect it back within the next week or so. Need to chase up status!

F1.8 at 18mm won't give you really thin DOF anyway, just gives you more light but the lens doesn't have image stabilisation whereas your 17-55 will. I considered the same and I can't see the point.

Ah ok, really wish they would hurry up with a new 50mm. :D

I wasn't considering one just saying looking at the reviews it looks staggering, especially for sharpness. It's pleasing to have some decent competition and I really like the look of them compared to the older sigmas.
