Love them, thanks to the both of you for sharing... I'm looking forward to getting to work with this lens. The bokeh is creamy and its tack sharp...
It seems to have all of the important attributes we seek in our lenses, in one nice tidy, solidly built package. There are some very interesting articles about the new 50mm ART lens too. Apparently its giving the 55mm Zeiss Otus a run for its money!!
link?
all we need now is a 85mm art lens and where sorted
The 35L is an old lens, first came out in December 1998.
The 50mm/1.4 came out in June 1993.
The 85L is in a class of its own really because you are not buying it for the focus speed, you are buying it for the 1.2 and that's pretty much it. It is a bit like people seek out the Canon 50/1.0 for the same reason. If they discontinue the 85/1.2 and the next 85L becomes a 1.4, the 1.2 will have the same status of the 50/1.0 no doubt.
Anyway, both the 35L and 50/1.4 is overdue a refresh....every other lens had one recently. 24mm is mk2, 50L is technically mk2 as it was 50/1.0. The 85L is mk2, the 100L is new, the 135L doesn't really need touching as there isn't really any competition. The zooms too are all mk2 (16-35, 24-70, 70-200). Even half the TS-E have a refresh or new line up (17 & 24mm), with 45 & 90mm being left and I doubt they sell many of those to warrant an update in any sort of hurry.
However, the new Sigma Art for 35 and 50 will no doubt wake them up and the numbers speaks for itself. It is overdue an update.
It's got to be next.
Well I'm considering selling my Sigma to get the 35L, low light AF performance isn't that great on my old 1Ds2. It's the 2nd I've had and both have been the same. I've picked up the USB dock to have a fiddle but can't see it making that much difference.
It is a challenging lens @f1.4
