Sigma 35mm f1.4....?!!

Supreme low light focusing here although that's on the 5D3. Doesn't matter what AF point is used in most cases.

Yeah, I don't fancy upgrading to a 5D3 just to use one lens though :D

I've been discussing it on other forms, some have the same issue but it seemed plenty are happy. I've got the dock now and I've updated the firmware. That hasn't made any difference though. I'll dial it all in on my 7D and see if that improves things for both cameras. I think It's just a limitation of an old body and new 3rd party lens (the Tamron 150-600 just released has loads of issues with the 7D and mkIV).

I ordered one at 2:30 today when I was bored on my break in work :D Now what to do with the 35L? My dad may have a prezzie coming :p

To be honest, there's very little in it. I've spent months looking at reviews of it, DXO scores, their reviews, user reviews, real photos, positives and negatives and after all that, I decided to not bother getting the 50mm when it comes out as I haven't once needed that focal length on full frame. I miss the look from the Sigma lens I had on the 60D (50mm 1.4) and decided that I can get this and easily sell the 35L if the Sigma is as good/better than it. My main reason though, is that the 35L doesn't feel as nice to use as the 85L and while the images, as you'd expect are great, it's just not quite sitting right with me. Probably my frame of mind (no pun intended!) really but as I'm in a position where I can buy it and at the very least if it's equal to the 35L, sell that and get my money back, I'll be fine and wiser for the experience.

Either way, one is being sold, unless I decide to give my dad a prezzie.

Interesting stuff! I'm quite enjoying the sigma 35 wide open and the minimum focal distance of around 30cm is rather nice also. Not sure what lens to buy next personally, as I'd like the 85L but the price is just daft on it tbh.

Or a dirty cheap manual focus Samyang 85mm 1.4... :p

Mine just arrived. First thing that struck me was how heavy it is & how it dwarfs ye old nifty fifty. Its a freaking beast.
The shipping document was not entirely accurate lol (nuff said here).

Not sure if its too big for the camera lol..
35mm on Nikon D610

The Sigma 35mm AF is not accurate & it focuses just before the focus point.
I presume the USB mount can correct that? Actually, I think one should not have to use autofocus with a wide angle lens anyway.
Other than that I'm very happy with the build quality.

You can use microadjust to correct that. Mine seems to be bang on when it comes to accuracy so luckily I didn't have to use MA.

Ahh sounds good news then, it actually focused perfectly in its first 5 minutes of operation.
How do you microadjust? Do you mean touch the focus ring slightly. thx

USB dock.... D'oh! ok
I'm wondering as the lens has a CPU if its actually autofocusing to the closer hyperfocal distance, though that wont explain why it was out of focus at f1.4.

This is one of the things I'm looking forward to playing with. Last Friday I was at a tiny gig. The band were playing in near darkness with red/green/blue lighting and black screens behind them. If you caught in between light phases there was no focusing on dark areas. Granted no lens is perfect in that situation unless using silly high ISO, but better AF and nifty docks to play with = win :D

Hey wow thanks. I didn't know that, guess I should have read the instruction book but it felt so much like my previous d90. Some tinkering to do then before the nice weather at the weekend :)

I noticed before that an old Tokina 70-210 is way out on focus too & just put it down to it's age, but an old Nikon 50mm & Nikon 24-85 are OK.
