Sigma 35mm f1.4....?!!

You cannot change the difference in focal length and field of view by walking backwards and forwards. There is a lot more to it than that. I prefer the look of a 50mm myself when outside, but like the 35mm inside.

The easiest way to explain it is to watch a dolly zoom video such as this:

Notice how both the focal length and distance to subject are changed together to retain the same framing, yet the perspective within the shot alters radically.

It's not a huge difference in either but there is a difference. 35mm on full frame is considered a standard wide angle focal length. 50mm is closer to the natural perspective and focal length we see with our eyes (~45mm on an FX sensor) which is why some folks prefer that.

I got around to trying the USB Dock last night. Of course the bloody thing doesn't work. Most annoying.

What doesn't work? Mine wouldn't update the firmware until I also made a small change on the AF side (which I just reset afterwards).

The PC doesn't recognise the lens is connected to the dock. It recognised something is connected to USB (the dock) but when you connect the lens nothing happens. There's no green light on the dock either. I've emailed DR and they're saying its knackered. Just got to send them the serial number when I get home from work and they'll replace it.

Of course I have! I didn't think it was just magic :D The software shows a device connected, checks for updates to the program but then doesn't recognise the fact there's a lens connected so it doesn't move to the next stage. Also the green light on the top of the dock doesn't light up either.

I've read a few people and seen a youtube video with various problems with the dock. Disappointing to not be able to check the lens and tinker with calibration, but hopefully they'll just ship me a new one as I return this one. I'd like to get it sorted sooner rather than later as I'm covering an event with 150 bands as of next week and want to use it there, and as people are mentioning the latest update improves AF I want that as it'll irritate me having to switch back to the 35L

I've ordered another hub and will try that. That will rule out any USB issues. I've tried front panel, case panel and the 6 at the rear. All USB 3, but I've not found any info stating USB 3 doesn't work. I'm wondering if it's a power issue, so if the second hub doesn't work, I may purchase a powered USB hub, although that's not been an issue before and I can't see any conflicts or driver issues. I did have an issues the other week where the keyboard wouldn't work despite being powered so it may be a motherboard issue. I'll try the old poop laptop that is USB 1.1/2.0 if the problem remains when the dock arrives tomorrow :)

Hub arrived, and more importantly it works. It seems the original one doesn't snap into place, but this one works perfectly. Now, as long as I don't think of anything else I suddenly 'need' I should be set for my gig on Wednesday :D
