Sign up for the MAG beta here!

HA yeah i know. Just have nothing else to do and was looking forward to it :)

In Other news. This just appeared on the Sony boards

So basically they messed up, again (this has happened on other Sony Betas).
They say they will learn, but they won't, :)

Sounds like they have no idea what they are doing tbh. The 16k keys were supposed to be staggered, but now they are saying they can send them all + 20k more by tomorrow? Surely the servers will not cope (as this was not the intended user load they planned) and this will cause issues for everyone?

A spare code for a friend who presumably doesn't post here? Tut. There are posters here who want one.

You don't have to. By all means, I don't mind if OcUKers have priority. This is the community after all, right? My friend says it's alright if he can't.

Just put in a few more hours. Got a bit to say so here goes.

This game is very, very good. I'm an FPS aficionado and am happiest when sniping at long range and this game has some very impressive sniping opportunities. For a start, the maps are vast and the draw distance is very far. You get a ridiculously satisfying sound effect of flesh impact whenever a round makes contact with a target and for headshots it just feels right. Sound effects in general are top notch and I really like the weapon recoil and iron sights.

The battles are epic on a scale I have not come across since Joint Ops or Planetside, and that is with 128 players (not the full 256). This is truly a game that has the potential to leave the 360 in the dust basically. It is like a PC game and if it wasn't for the fact you don't get a talk bar for keyboards I would be certain this was on PC.

Airstrikes and support options are very well handled too. When Spectre gunships come in you really get a sense of the power of the cannons. However, buildings don't seem to be destructible which is a big shame. Basically, this is like a really large scale Frontlines but with far better customisation and map design.

I still haven't seen a way to create your own squad though and I just hope this is not going to turn into Bad Company in that respect. To work, MAG simply MUST allow you to party up with mates and then hop into battle as a squad. If they don't get this right, the game will fail epically. That simple. I am so excited about this now but I just cannot emphasise enough how vital party/squad options are here. I can see this being a MW2 rival very easily and the potential for clan gaming is off the charts.

Finally, someone else who is loving MAG :)

In terms of 'squadding up', the BIG problem that I can foresee is that the game forces you to choose a faction, and ONE faction only. If you get together a group of friends, you CAN squad up, but only if you're all the same faction. That said, if everyone from OcUK chose, say, Raven then all would be good :p

Yep, this is the sort of thing that simply must be addressed and dealt with right. I get the feeling that the game might open up party and/or squad options once you are in a clan. So essentially your friends must be clan members. That would make sense when you take the factions into account.

Oh and I agree that Raven is the way forward ;) I'll tell ya something about this game that is hilarious. It reminds me of something that happened in a very obscure game that was hosted on gamestorm.com back in the '90s called Silent Death Online. Essentially, the factions are just different colours on a score list but big time loyalty is already kicking in it seems. Some guy on the mic was really hating on Valor for example. Here is the state of play as I see it:

Raven: Brits and Americans (it even describes Raven as that (+ Mexicans!))

Valor: Europeans - as in French, German, etc.

S.V.E.R: Everyone else!

Another thing this game will really need is a sort of lobby or means to communicate with the other factions. It is very much a Horde vs Alliance thing. However, unlike a game like Planetside, I don't think the battles actually mean anything in terms of capturing land or advancing your faction in any way? I think that whole big map you get before joining a battle is a bit of a false impression of persistence.

Had a bit of a go at this last night. Seems pretty good actually, like a mix of Planetside (PC) and a game like Joint Operations (PC).
Damn I loved the JO Beta from way back - weaned me off Quake 3...

Love to hear other opinions

ps3ud0

only managed a quick blast but ill be honest even as a beta its the best thing ive played on my dust gathering PS3.

Wish I could change the fire controls to the triggers though. I have enough ps3 pad issues without having to shoot with the bumper buttons.

Had a few teething problems like no training to being with to familiarise myself with the controls, was cycling thru the buttons and getting killed while trying to figure out how to heal myself, seems there is no bullet travel? was aiming slightly ahead of running ppl and missing where as when i aimed at them running, was able to hit them, gameplay seems fun, espically if ur in a squad who use the comms.
