Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Can anyone spec me a 2oz shot glass? (not from Hasbean)

The last Hasbean one I had has just chipped on its lip after 30 months :( & I want one that's a little shorter as I had trouble fitting it under the portafilter on my Gaggia Cubika plus.

To be fair, natural coffees are good coffees allowed to go rotten. ;)

I'm not a fan of the taste of a farmyard. :D

You still get a taste of coffee in there somewhere, this was just pungent rotten hay. It stank out the kitchen just from being ground (grinder had to be given a good soaking). That coffee may have supposed to have been that way, but I hadn't ever tasted a natural like that before or since. It put me off natural for quite a while! I still used HasBean for a while, and will again I imagine. I quite liked trying out coffees on subscription (small batch coffee company) it was interesting to see what I'd get every two weeks :D

I got one of these a few years ago and its been amazing: http://coffeehit.co.uk/cafe-supplies/espresso-shot-vessels/rattleware-3oz-shot-pitcher
very solidly made and fits nicely under the spout. Unfortunately its out of stock at the moment and seems to be a little awkward to find online i'm afraid :(

Really fancy a Gaggia Classic myself for Christmas. Would the Hario hand grinder be alright for the time being or are there and electric grinders for under £100 worth having.

Is the IBERITAL MC2 any good?

Can anyone recommended any good value for money coffee e-shops?

I love the Hasbean stuff, but when it's nearly £5 for shipping it makes ordering one packet an expensive ordeal.

Or does anyone use a subscription service? That may be a cheaper option? I can often go through 250g in a week, easily.

The MC2 is great, had ours a year and hasn't missed a beat. Just get the doserless version.

I also have the MC2 and it's great if you're just making one kind of coffee all the time (e.g. espresso grind - if you had to also grind for filter now and again it would be a bit annoying).

If you can find it under £100 anywhere please let us know. Keep in mind that the HappyDonkey site also adds VAT on to the price when you get to the checkout :/

1kg bags from Rave work out pretty good value for money, I've been using their Signature blend as my go to coffee for the last year after trying most of their blends.

in comparison square mile is actually slightly cheaper gram for gram - or pact are very cheap (search for introductory vouchers as well) as a subscription but the first bag i had from them was pretty useless, second has been much better!

Thanks, shall have a look!

Yeah I seen pact, and a £1 offer too which is nice. Not too bad roughly £25~ a month, which is about my coffee budget anyway. Might do this for a few months.

Hmm it seems the Hasbean weekly subs is cheaper than pact coffee acctually!

what would you recommend from them? And for the group buy whats the price coming back at (don't have an account (or posts) on uk coffee forums)

A lot of people love their Italian Job, Signature Blend or Fudge however my palette couldn't pick out those flavours. I did like their Uganda Mount Chesiyo, it was so delicious that I left a review on their site lol

I guess I like a hint of fruit in my lattes whilst some people don't.

I want to get into pour overs as I "think" I will prefer it to milk based coffee. Something like the Clever v2, Hario Kettle (which I have no idea why it's so expensive) and some Filtropa white filters should do the trick.

The brass plates were £13.45 delivered but the group buy has been filled now. I'm running one for Gaggia IMS competition screens atm which are £11.05.

I'll check that one out :)

Pour over wise you don't need a kettle for a clever dripper as it holds the water in to allow for submersion brewing... its not quite pour over exactly but gives much the same result without the faff. If you want to try proper pour over grab a v60, they can come in seriously cheap (until you add a kettle...)

I don't need a screen... but its very tempting, trust me the details if you don't mind?

+1 for the Iberital MC2 as a grinder.

For gaggia classics you sometimes see them in the amazon warehouse deals (i.e. returns). Mine is a very old one but having just completed the OPV mod to it I would recommend doing it as it has made a big difference for me as mine was way too high in pressure.

I get my coffee from http://www.garraways.co.uk/
Cheap, Fresh, Tasty and good service

Also if you want a V60 pact coffee were giving them away free on your first order. Not bad that, though I went with the £1 offer instead.

Shall check out Rave coffee in the morning. :)
