Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

I have a wilfa and Lido 3 for my filter options.

The wilfa was fine to start, but i find the top burr isnt clicking in place like it used too ( or i think it used too!), and the grind consistency isnt great now. Particle sizes are all over the pace so gone back to the lido!

Shout out for Tynemouth Coffee Company - no affiliation whatsoever, just a satisfied and happy customer. Great beans, Bobby Dazzler, Tynemouth Espresso, Rocket Fuel and Hadaway Harry are what I've tried so far from their range.

Well worth a punt on a couple of bags if anyone fancies something new.......

lol "loading" they have a resource heavy web-site :( should have kept it simple. imhop.

I think the market has become over-extracted , its like gin start up, or craft breweries (but millenial tee-totallers are putting paid to them both) the
disproportionate marketting spend by coffee startups to suggest they are delivering some exclusive/tailored experience.
If they are on your doorstep, then OK, otherwise the Postage is often killing it.
Must be opportunity for an Amazon economy of scale, here ?

(UK) Nespresso advertising seems to have diminished, but equally the entry price into 'coffee at home', grinder + expresson machine / V60 is not so small.

Right on the doorstep for me so nice and handy. Coffee is great too. I agree there are lots of new companies popping up, some better than others. My experience with Tynemouth so far is all good and I speak as I find.

I used to use Pumphrey's who've been around for a crazy long time but I'm preferring TCC for now. Acid test will be to go back to my old go-to Pumphreys bean in a month or so and see how it compares.

I reverted back to hasbean a while ago now. I'm not sure why, they seem to always be my default roaster. Prolly because they were the first I used or something.

Usually I'd lambast myself for not looking around more and having a dabble hear and there, because that was most of the fun for me - discovering new flavours, both good and bad.

But lately I've just been too busy and also lazy because I have just enjoyed buying whatever is highly rated + popular on hasbean. I still feel like a sinner for it though :D

If TCC is on your doorstep then I’d heartily recommend Baristocracy to try Nantucket. They will equally be on your doorstep at the industrial estate around shiremoore.

My work did a coffee cupping and blending day with them a while back and we now get our custom coffee from them regularly. We’re a doctors surgery with a bunch of coffee fans rather than a cafe or anything.

Thanks for the heads up, never heard of them but will certainly give them a try in a week or 2 when my current stash is running low. :)

Drive past their place in Shields almost daily as it turns out......

Looking to get a filter machine for when I have larger groups of people over and making several shots at a time becomes laborious. I was just going to take a punt on a supermarket jobby as I consider them all to be very much the same. Or am I totally wrong here and and should be looking elsewhere?

I find a V60 easier to get a decent cup out of then the Chemex, for me at least.

I reckon I could knock out 4 shots for 4 americanos quicker with less fuss than a large drip brewer, I'm half tempted to ditch my pour over stuff for a breville precision brewer.

If you have been used to pulling decent espresso shots the "cheapy" filter coffee makers might dissapoint in terms of flavour. If you can afford £150 ish the behmore brazen+ makes really decent brew with very little fuss.Plenty of settings to play with bloom time temp etc etc.Been using one for the past few years and although it has a few niggles it does the job well.

Soon as the breville precision brewer is available we will be getting one, and the brazen+ will be taken to work.

Been using a Gaggia Classic for a couple of years now - used almost entirely for straight espressos or making up americano's and flat whites and wondering what mods if any are worthwhile?

Any idea if the silvio rancilio wand is a worthwhile add on?

I'm not convinced temperature control is much benefit, if the water is being dribbled onto a cone shaped filter with coffee, once it hits coffee and builds up a pool, who knows how temp drops ?
if anything the flat basket filters, like moccamaster, look like better step up as a more homogenous brewing environment, used to have these in some companies too before the automatic - jack of all trades master of none.

edit - bonus moccamaster do colours too

throther mechanism are pretty good, when there is not a huge amount of steam power, had one on an audrey. so chnaging to a conventional wand seems negligible gain to me.
.. not sure hoiw much wands are .. but might be better invested in an upgrade ... wonder if the sage duo pro/barista are being tweaked/revised

Given how often I will be using it, I can't justify the price tbh. My wife's parents are over from France on Thursday and they like a brew on a morning, we will easily go through 6-8 cups just at breakfast. Generally speaking they buy cheap coffee and use a £30 brewer. I'll have better coffee, but a similar brewer. Once they're gone it will probably go back in the cupboard until next time. Any extra coffee needed during the day then I can pull shots.

Just down the road from me so might check them out some time.

I sometimes shop at Pumphrey's as I work in Newcastle City centre. Usually get a 100g sample as they have quite a lot to choose from so I can find a roast which I like. Kenya AA was one I tried recently which was quite nice.

I've seen TCC at Tynemouth market a few times but never tried them myself. Happy to support local businesses if their Coffee is what I'm looking for.
