I bought a second cap for my Aeropress and while I was on Has Bean I bought their sample.

While I'm eager to try turns out that is quite a lot of coffee for one person. Is the best idea to keep it in the freezer until I'm ready to use/can I use it straight from the freezer?

There are 2 school of thoughts on these, ones that do and ones that don't.

I personally don't. Simply the reason that do you see any coffee shop, chain or boutique or otherwise, keep their beans in the freezer?

So I can't see how keeping it in the freezer now at the end of its life cycle going to preserve anything at all. The only thing people are concerned about are the oils and the oxidation and since it's not grounded and still sealed, it won't matter, personally speaking.
 
That makes perfect sense now you mention it. :D

I was keeping mine in a ziplock in the fridge but I'll see about utilising some biscuit tins I have.

These aren't whole beans, it is all espresso ground coffee ready for the Aeropress. I don't have my own grinder... yet.

Now on the hunt for some nice mugs so I'm not using freebie ones from work or online retailers. ;)
 
The only true path :;)
if you do not have the turnover of a coffee shop and need to economically buy in bulk
freeze in sealed bags, defrost in fridge, bring up to ambiant still sealed, now use from bag over < 5 days keeping out of fridge.. [storing and using from fridge is continually exposing remainder to condensation/temp-change; whilst storing sealed, even if vacuumed in nitrogen, still got oil rancidity/moisture degradation after >10days]

Spro grind for aeropress? Will that work? I imagine it'll just plug and take forever to filter through

Ninja edit: Has bean also do a really nice 'diner style' mug - that's my go to erryday one.

What version would you have said to use?

I just tried my first bag from Has Bean and it worked ok.

Too much faff.

I just buy about 5 bags max at a time and they are fresh enough each time.

Filter. I would've thought you'd be massively over extracting using an espresso grind... Aeropress is a great brewer, but you're not using it to make espresso.
 
I thought recommended grind for an AP is actually nearer espresso than filter :confused:

Personally I grind at 1.5 on my Baratza Encore, which means it's only 3 clicks away from the lowest! And that's on a scale of 0-30ish.

Rave must be matching my coffeerhythm, just on the last of 3k consignment from Apr15 deal - a couple of signatures and an Italian job (maybe they need to remove these European names though) Colombian Suarez was good too
 
Recommended by who? I thought it was generally accepted that the Aerobie methods were ... not great?

https://worldaeropresschampionship.com/ all seem to be 6-7/10 (10=coarse).

I'd try a bag of filter grind... I think with 'spro grind you have to be super quick otherwise you'd fudge the extraction. I find that 1.5-2mins total brew time suits me at about 5/10 on the SJ (I brew for Spro at 2.8-3, 7ish for french press).

Have a read of the tasting notes for each coffee. I've got a bag of Columbia Suarez & Ethiopia Layo Tiraga #170 to start on when I've finished with the Hasbean brazilian I'm drinking right now. I popped in their place 10 days ago on my way back from the South West & both bags were a few days after Roast so I got them cheap. :D

Either way you can't really go wrong with their Signature blend. :)
 
Is anyone following a strict wait until n days after roasting rule, to avoid having to dial in and waste coffee, during what often seems to be, to me, an un-tameable infancy, where I end up with a blond gusher, as it is never ground fine enough ?
[Rave tell me when it was roasted, however Stewarts did not]

Not ever really bothered waiting personally, I tend to tweak the grind immediately after every pour so the grinder is ready for the next time. Generally accept that the first couple of days are going to be spent getting the grind perfect & part of that is just down to the beans settling.

[snob mode]if it ain't got a roasted date i ain't buying it[/snob mode] - not tried Stewards but i'd be wary if they aren't labeling their beans...
