Sim racers - what are you running?

I have used a X56 for years for my flight stuff, one of the things that triggered me to buy new kit to go with my new PC was i don't want to spend literally days setting up my stuff on a new PC to change them out over Xmas.
Anyone who plays DCS or any other flight game knows that getting it set up is a chore to say the least, makes tuning a sim setup look like binding keys,

Going the whole "buy once, cry once" way this time round, high end kit well researched to fit my needs. Should have me set for the next few years.

Smart choice mate.

I'm deliberating over A Fanatec GT DD Pro or Moza at the moment.

I think I'm caving in.

I might just get the DD too 8nm as you have with the PS5 compatability as at least down the road if I ever wanted to play a PS5 racing game, I could. Going to get the V3 pedals. How did you decide which wheel to get mate? Hows the quick release adaptor? did you get the premium one?

How long did it take to deliver to UK? Custom wise did you just pay the VAT or anything else?

Xbox compatibility too if you get the right rim :)

I wanted a Round wheel for rally driving and a Formula/GT wheel for ACC and track racing, So i got the WRC wheel and the Maclaren GT3 wheel. Both wheels are Xbox compatible so can be used on my series X or my PC or a PS if i buy one later. GT3 wheel was a nice to have I could have used the WRC wheel for everything.

I decided to buy the Metal QR1 (x2) and they are nice, no wobble fit nice and feel quality.

Delivery was around 10-12 days from order to at my door. but everything was in stock, it turned up as 6 boxes and UPS spammed the hell out of me with status emails.

Customs wise, your you get hit for VAT/import duty 20% plus a handling charge that was around £20 i was worried that i would get the handling charge on each box but didnt, just had to pay it online to UPS simple once you set up an account. Customs charges are calculated on the day the order hits their centre at the Euro rate that day.

The wheel is quality and I got the new V2 Pedals which are also great, I'm going to remount/move my pedals to get more comfortable. As im 6'7" I have issues in real cars getting comfortable and sim rig is the same.

Thank you mate. I'll go for one wheel and then put the money into maybe inverted pedals because I've never really used a driving rig before.

So essentially custom fee wise, we just pay VAT + £20-40 or whatever the handling charge is? Thats not too bad if its the case. I have tried to track this stuff down second hand but I'vve grown tired trying to barter with people over it all lol. I feel like second hand discount should be 30-40%.. not 5% lol.

Can you link me the wheel you got which is round?

It's a cheaper wheel but I like it, add €100 for the metal QR.

Second hand is nuts, my mate at work bought a some high end stuff and sold his old CSL2.5 wheel base and wheels for good money.
I was amazed how much he got for them.

I've got the original version of that, P1 Alcantara. Solid multi-role wheel but my older version has a different release system but is still compatible and has an aftermarket magnetic shifter mod.

Thinking about buying a GT Omega wheel stand for ~£90 from Amazon, to revive my racing sim hobby after ~5 years.

Finally got a Logitech G29, bought three years ago, out of the box to have a little play in the last few days!

Got an old Fanatec GT3 911 wheel from ~15 years ago hidden away in a box, wheel rotation mechanism wrecked. I think the aluminium Clubsport pedals work, could I use them via their own USB cable instead of the G29 pedal set, which have felt quite odd the last few days?

I have the GT Omega Apex Wheel stand and I liked it allot to get started, then I added the Rear Seat Frame and a seat to it, then started bolting HOTAS mounts to it for flight sim stuff.

Its a good stepping stone set-up, and while i would love to go that extra mile and get a GTO OMega Prime or one of the other options, It is enough for me right now.

If you really stamp on the brake (on load cell peadals) then youcan feel a little flex in the pedal tray but for 95% of the time they are fine.

If your using the stand by itself then the most important thing is a seat that wont move under braking.

It's so ironic that the G29 has come out of the box this last week after almost three years, when my head is so fuzzy and can't deal with fast speed games and I can't make decisions!

Part of me thinks get the GT Omega Apex over the old GT Omega for the adjustable angle pedal base, means another ~£25.

But then part of me thinks get a compact desk like the https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09HC9MSD1/ * and see how I get on (having to use current desk with "booster blocks" under the chair legs due to my tiny legs for someone 5'10").

* Dangerously presuming I can link as OCuk doesn't sell that brand

Has anyone got a simucube pro 2?
Heard its the best by far?

Fanatec sold out and I'm fed up paying top dollar for second hand stuff.
For the extra couple of hundred quit, I can go SC2. grab some cheap LCM pedals and wait for simucube's newly released pedals.

Having used the Warthog, I agree with you.

I'm not that much of a fan of it. Throttle okay, stick is a bit meh. Haven't used another stick for reference though but I didn't enjoy Mechwarrior although then again I didn't know how to use it. Lucky I didnt spend too much on it.. I don't think stick is for me.

If you can afford the SC2, do it.
As for the pedals... You're probably looking at at least £12-1500 each. If that's fine by you, then great. Otherwise, I'd just grab some Sprints and call it a day.

I have one too. I love it but wouldn't say it's the best by far, that's somewhat subjective and you have to consider options like Simucube 2 Ultimate & Bodnar 52/53/54 which all use Kohlmorgan motors I believe, but at a significantly increased cost.

For me, it's all the wheel base I'll ever need & more. The wireless compatibility is a nice touch too, I ungraded to an Ascher wheel recently and it's great having no wires.

I have a Simucube 2 pro also. Didn’t make me any faster than my ts-pc, but it feels much smoother and nicer to use.
Agree with others, look at maybe some sprints or Asetek forte pedals. Might be worth a look on Race Department forums, as there are often people selling their old sprint pedals as they are upgrading or leaving sim racing.

thanks mate I was going to get the wireless takho wheel, thought a bit more versatile for other games?
i probably mis quoted. i meant to say its the best wheel in its price point (i.e. compared to Moza and Fanatec).. i am aware they are much bigger boys :D.

thank you. I'll go with sprints. I was tempted to go for asetekk but i ehard they're very stiff and i want to mount them to a YawVR2 and have read the sprints are a bit better for mounting as they require less acutation to press down and break ?

I know this is a silly question and not what the SC2 is made for.. but has anyone managed to emulate martio Kart and use it with a SC2? I wish there was a modder who would add in some FFB and equations so it'd be a viable fun option. Any fun games you can play SC2 which are maybe less realistic but very fun?
