Sim racers - what are you running?

Money no object for me would be the Grid Engineering Porsche RSR wheel.

I have the Ascher F28 V2 and it’s a great formula rim, very well made. you can get a bargain second hand for a little over £300. I’m not sure what the other rim is that you mention I’m afraid.

If you're a little handy, you could build your own. It'd still cost around £600 odd, mind :D

My youngest brother did that, it's a great wheel for the price.

I got my GSi used for £700. Which was actually pretty cheap, and I’m very happy with.
If it were me buying new, I’d look at Ascher. I bought a Cube controls, which I’d say is only ok for the money. As her look much better quality.

should i be getting Ascher Racing F28C-V2 or the takho wheel?
I guess that depends on what kind of driving/racing you see yourself doing most.
Personally, I think the Tahko is aesthetically gash and not worth the price they're asking and I wouldn't want to drive formula/LMP/GT3 with it.
The Ascher is great for that kind of thing, but you wouldn't really want to do road car/drifting/rally etc with it.

Ideally, you kind of want to have one of both styles, unless you mainly drive one kind of thing. Or perhaps, a 300mm round/D rim would be a good all rounder if you want one for all.

Is wireless critically important to you? Having a USB cable really isn't an issue in my experience.

thanks mate. ascher button box seems to be what ppl have reccomended to me and then just buy the rims separately and upgrade over time.

Thanks. I'll go with an ascher button box after researching a bit. think thats the easiest thing to do.

Sounds like a plan :)
I use a Simagic Alpha mini with a 300mm AMG GT3 style rim + a 320mm D rim and button /shifter box. Both homebrew.
The 300mm is used 90% of the time.

Perfect. Thank you mate. I think I'll do the button box then + rim. Seems to make the most sense and lets me experiment a bit with wheel sizes, what I like as I've never done sim racing before.

Getting a wheel for my son for Xmas and just wondering about the desk setup. (5600x & 6700XT GPU) I've ordered him a wider and deeper gaming desk and I`m just wondering how people get round the issue of having the wheel basically in the way when using the keyboard/mouse its either or.
Doing a search on here I can see a lot have a custom wheel setup separate from the keyboard/monitor setup. This is not possible. Others have dual monitors so the normal seating position is in front of monitor 1 with the wheel/setup in front of Monitor 2. He has a 27" LG 144mhz 1440p monitor. Question is do I spend more dosh and buy a matching monitor to one side. Alternatively do I get him a UW 34" monitor like mine. When I had a steering wheel in the dim distance past there were none of these custom wheel gaming frames etc you had to put your wheel in the normal position everytime you wanted to use it then unscrew it and move it to use keyboard/mouse normally. I've seen someone on Youtube create a custom quick release bolt method but that might be too much hassle.

Best option I can think of is get a 2nd monitor and set it up in front of that.

Finally took the plunge and received my GT Omega Apex stand last night, shocked at how heavy the box was at 16Kg and how deep front to back the open frame is relative to my current pc desk!

Sheet lists all the assembly parts, but individual steps don't say "use nut x and bolt y" to fit wheelbase support to frame. Hoping to get my head around after 10 more coffees this morning and then make enough space under the desk for this behemoth.:p

I'd look for a new or used GT Omega Apex wheel stand or similar. They can be folded away and keep the wheels and pedals on them.

It looks good for £90 just its a little big folded away I dont think it will fit in the room.

Just seen this comment in the Q&A :)

Q. If i plug this into the usb in my car, and put it in the passenger side, will it conflict with the other steering, pedal and gears?
A. Much better to put it in the drivers seat, then when you crash you can just hit the 5 second rewind button, you'll saves thousands in car repairs.

I'm thinking of selling my Fanatec CSL DD 8 Nm and McLaren GT3 v2 for a Moza R9 and FSR Formula wheel.
Mainly because the basic Fanatec QR is driving me nuts and the Moza wheels look lush :)

Has anyone else gone from Fanatec to Moza?

Also, what are people recommendations for best pedals under £500 - I would rather have a 2 pedal setup which can be adjusted/separated further apart.

I doubt Moza are the best of the best. You are probably looking at something like the Bodnar or Simucube range.
