Sim racers - what are you running?

Well that's £2000 blown on SIM stuff, still need 2 more monitors and the extra monitor mounts for my stand that's another £600.

I need a shifter and handbrake and a round wheel for a bit of rally that's another £700+

maybe need some button boxes, maybe add a 4th top screen plus I could do with a stream deck.

Sim racing money pit lol.

I'm going to add up my spend later, i've taken a different approach. Gone in big from the start to avoid so many purchases through an upgrade tree.

Ouch, however I don't think my setup is much different to Daves. So I'm nearly £20k up :)

Remember the Hakkinen overtake on Schumacher at Spa on the Kemmel straight in 2000.

This was almost the same, but ended badly for me, with the lapped middle BMW, taking me out  [ACC -> LFM 45min race]

Why would he fight that, being a lapped car? What a donut...

Speaking of donuts, me and a mate also did an LFM 45 minutes at Spa this evening. We were on for a 1-2 until my dumb arse only noticed I didn't have enough fuel to complete the lap before my pitstop :rolleyes:

Nah, he didn't mind at all. He won the race :D We were both solo drivers, just in the same split.

It was an odd one anyway. I only qualified 10th after turning up late to the session and having to work out pressures, then got taken out in qually by another car losing it when I was on my only quick lap that should have put me in the top 3. I avoided 4 or 4 incidents in the first lap and spent a while behind slightly slower drivers until I managed to get clear and caught up with him to make us p3+p2.
He then pitted and I was gonna do one more lap before coming in, then only noticed I didn't have enough fuel just as he peeled off into the pitlane and I sailed past

He jumped another guy in the pit, due that guy having an odd incident with another car as he was coming in. Had I come in at the same time, we would've left in p1+p2.

I "gave up" the hobby in the summer after spending a small fortune at the start of 2022 on gear (Fanatec GT DD Pro, V3 Pedals, McLaren GT wheel, Formula 2.5x Wheel with Advanced Podium module, TrackRacer TR80 cockpit and Samsung 49" G9 monitor).

The primary reason for giving up was the particularly hot summer meant it was too uncomfortable to play (Our spare room has my PC/console and my son's PC/console setup so with 2 PCs or a PC plus a console and TV it wasn't nice). I'm now in the process of trying to tidy/organise the garage so that I can get everything setup in there. Cooler in winter yes, but much cooler in the summer. The itch is definitely back though and I can't wait to get back into iRacing (Though I do need to get a 12th or 13th Gen i5 and a 3080 level GPU to complete a 3rd PC for it).

I'll send you the spec of ther PC i'm running at the moment (when I get home). Apart from the 3090FE it's very very old... I'm surprised at how well it's running iRacing @ Triple 1440p
Nice one. I was running a 3090 when I was setup but I have since put that in my sons PC. A 3080 or 6900XT will be more than enough (Or rather the most I can justify on a 3rd PC). I've got the motherboard (Z790, DDR5 RAM, Case, PSU and SSD). The party pieces are now all that I require.

I had a tasty 5800x AMD system but sold it when it became clear my Sim Racing wasn't happening anytime soon. I kept the 3090 though. So the pc now is just an old junk one while I wait for the new x3d AMD vs 13th gen intel

I think Dan Suzuki recently trialed a cooled seat, that could be a good idea in the summer. I think it was cold fusion.

She struggles with cars on the screen. Without or with 1 car and she's pulling 100+FPS. On the grid it's mid 40s. Quality settings are high / medium. Running in close traffic after a start you can certainly feel the lower FPS and it causes issues with my driing quality. :)

How you finding the sparco seat? I have the same one and it's a little hard on the bottom.

Yeah. It needs more padding. The pad under the legs is ok but the bum one is too thin. I'm going to ask the MIL to make a nicer one. Fortunately all the pads are removable with the velcro.

I was looking at this seat - is there another one you would buy now given your experience?

I quite like the look of the sim labs own brand one

Cheers k

I wanted the SimLabs one but could never find it. I've no issue with the seat as such and i've not used any others to compare. It just needs a slightly bigger pad under the bum.

Yeah as John Smith says it just needs some bum padding. I managed to find a square cushion on Amazon for £15 as I wasn't paying the £33 for the sparco one.
