Sim racers - what are you running?

New rig being built today, finally retiring the old Trak racer R6, it's managed 5 years and is in a bit of a state now.

Got a PRO SIM PSR3 coming today so will be taking everything to bits again, also go some floor mats for underneath the rig as it's upstairs, might dampen the noise a little.

I wanted the SimLabs one but could never find it. I've no issue with the seat as such and i've not used any others to compare. It just needs a slightly bigger pad under the bum.
Thanks - the only place i have seen the simlabs one is in their website. Slight hesistant about ordering from eu post brexit but i do like the blue.
Yeah as John Smith says it just needs some bum padding. I managed to find a square cushion on Amazon for £15 as I wasn't paying the £33 for the sparco one.
Cheers - easily solvable then

So I ended up adding another shaker to the back of the seat and I'm an even happier chap now.
It really has rounded out the setup after a bit of dialling in. Nothing's overwhelming anything and everything is clear with what it is.
The immersion and enjoyment of just driving is light years ahead of what it was without any of this. I even think that the added information may even be helping me get a little quicker - notably the front/rear wheel slip feedback.

Have you drilled thorugh the seat? I'm not sure i'm brave enough to do that. I might look at an adhesive solution. I think my Nobsound amp has a fault. I've ordered another and started a return on the 1st. I'll have some overlap so I should be able to confirm the issue.

Yep, drilled through and used low profile bolts. YOLO :D An adhesive solution should also work if it doesn't eventually shake it's way loose.
The back shaker isn't ideal for the more 'vibey stuff' on my setup, as it's mounted to a large area which can result in resonance. It's great for gears giving you a thunk in the back and a few other bits that complement what the other shakers are doing though.

I'd definitely recommend revisiting your pedal situation if you want maximum cohesion :)

Both of mine are still on the rear side of the rig. My seat has holes for a 5 point harness so I was thinking of making a plate that attached via the hole between your legs. I've explained that terribly but I can see it in my minds eye.

I'll look at the pedals again at the weekend. It's going to require some re engineering to make it work.

Looking at your pics, the plate looks like it's 10mm thick? My GT1 is 5mm steel, so not too bad, but I have been half thinking about running two on there in parallel on one channel. Probably won't though.
With a 10mm plate, I probably would and I'd raise the plate with either spacers or profile and drill that sucker and mount both with either low profile or countersunk bolts.
But that's me :)

Yeah, i'll need to raise the deck with some profile. I'll look at doing that and I should hopefully get a shaker underneath it without it fouling on the mounting platform. I think i'dd also need to lower the main platform to keep the pedals at a similar overall height.

Sounds like a plan!

As an alternative to the back shaker, a good friend of mine runs 2-4 of these in the kidney and thigh bolsters of his seat (he says just the kidney ones are sufficient). If your seat cover is removable, it's an easy job that doesn't require any destructive DIY.

Getting my rig outta the garage this evening and begiining the slow process of getting it built back up. I think I've got everything I need (Bags of cable ties for uber tidyness) but I'm sure there'll be something I've missed.

Nice one.

My ASUS Bezel kit should arrive today. I've had an extension kit 3d printed for my 32"s and i'm in an office with a 3d printer so i'm going to try and print some cable management clips. Wish me luck....3d printing is a black art.

We are nearly there folks. All the big bits are setup, however my USBs are too short to reach the PC .I bought the display cables( DP 5m cables plus 3m extension) but didn't even think to order USB cables in the same lengths. Ah well. The delivery man should deliver them tomorrow. Then it'll be cable clip/tidy/hide time.

3d printed clips went well. Asus bezel kit is witch craft! I'm going to slightly tweak the monitos on the vario mounts tomorrow and get them dialled in.

2 races in the MX5 this evening. Still buzzing, i've given up with qualifying so:

Started 12 > 4th, less than a tenth off 3rd at the line.
Started 11th > 2nd and catching 1st
Combined I gained SR +22 and iR+120

Both races with 0 incidents.

I'll definitely be jumping into the MX-5s first to get back into the swing of things but I was absolutely in love with the multiclass racing (Using the LMP2 car) before I parked the rig last year. Very keen to get back into that (Though they are at Long Beach this week so may give that a miss).

What happens to your licence/iRating when you don't play for a long time on iRacing?

I think your stats stay static over time. Another reason for me staying in the mx5 is down to having a wheel with no buttons. It gives me a reason to keep learning race craft and gaining stats. When my new wheel arrives I should hopefully be good enough for bigger cars.
