Sim racers - what are you running?

You don't wanna stay exclusive to the MX-5s too long. I got to 2.5k (ish) in the MX-5 but struggled a lot jumping into other cars. Focusing on 1-3 cars is the best way to go.

Been looking at upgrading my Fanatec V3 pedal set for a little while now, never been happy with the brake pedal feel, even with the mod kit installed. Narrowed it down to Heusinkveld Ultimates or Simtrecs ProPedal GT.

Found a barely used set of Simtrecs on ebay, delivered and installed them this week. Just need to spend some time tweaking, but overall out of box very happy with them.

The good vibes continue...

A mate sent me an unused spare Dayton puck, so I knocked up a mount and stuck it on the brake.
So far, ABS is quite decent if you keep it relatively light - too much judder every time you brake is distracting. Wheel lock is kind of pointless when you're running ABS, but might be useful in the rain.

I've found a combo of light ABS and light front wheel slip works well and lets me take slip off the front shaker and leave it to handle rumble, vibration and impacts.
The plan is to add another to the throttle and also let that handle some light slip.
While pedal feedback is definitely last on the list, all these things combined really do increase immersion, enjoyment and bring the rig to life.

Even without the flags, they could literally see the carnage in front of them and still piled in anyway.
Before the race, I even made a point of asking people to chill out on lap 1 to avoid this kind of thing, but people gonna people...

Anyway, that'll teach me to qualify

We are finally up and running:

Everyone knows how tedious cable tidying can be so it did take a wee while. A small amount of technical tweaking was required (The GT DD Pro wheelbase can be quite particular about which motherboard USB port its connected into apparently). Managed just 1 practice session and race in the rookie MX5s which went as good as one could expect after being away from the thing for about 7 months (Qualified 6th and finished 5th). It'll take a wee while to find my correct iRating again me thinks.

I will need to get the Mrs to help me tilt the monitor forward a touch (Tis leaning back a wee bit but since I did all of this myself I don't think I can be too hard on myself, that monitor plus mounting arrangement is bloody heavy

I cannot wait to get back into the the multi class stuff. I like driving the GT3 cars however am shockingly slow in them for some reason compared with other series.

Did you drive at Oran in the MX5? What's your lap time? I've done a 1:16.0 with an optional of 1:15.5 In a race i'm usually in the 17s though. I just can't keep my laptimes fast all the time.

Twas my fastest in practice. 1.16.6 was my qually time. 1.16.0 was my fastest in the race (MX5s like a good slimstream). I was frustrating myself with the errors I was making on most laps. I need to chill out and just enjoy it.

Love this setup !
I'm planning to replicate a similar setup later this year, when I convert our garage into a gaming/sim racing room.

I know it's early days but how are you finding the Trak Racer setup? The rig appears to be solid, but a lot of reviews complain about the chair mounting system/connection being a weak point, having some flex.
