Would prefer it to be flat, but doesn't look like I could get spacers to fit in it with my desk thicknessIs the angle too shallow? If so there are wedges/spacers that you can print on Thingiverse or buy on etsy/ebay.

Having it flat mounted would feel awkward when turning, up to a 15 degree angle is the norm for ease of rotation I thinkThe desk clamp really sucks as it forces the whole thing to be at an odd angle!
I would agree, however I normally sit a little reclined when sim racing - My Lotus wheel is flat in relation to driving position too so used to that!Having it flat mounted would feel awkward when turning, up to a 15 degree angle is the norm for ease of rotation I think
Each to their own though!
Aluminium profile would take up more space then a wheelstand i imagine?Had looked at them but frustratingly the dimensions of desk/chair layout would make it difficult!
Not a great deal of room. I think if anything, it might need to be a DIY jobby to make an aluminium profile myself.
Before I got my profile rig I used to use a wheel stand pushed half under the desk to help with the limited space. I had it on wheels so I could easily move it out the way…Using Fanatec DD CSL 8NM and standard pedals + load cell upgrade here. Very happy with it.
Need to find a proper way of mounting in the limited space I have... The desk clamp really sucks as it forces the whole thing to be at an odd angle!
I have the next level wheelstand 2.0 and two of its feet is on wheels. Takes about 2mins to setup or put away
Possibly, but I think it gives me more flexibility about where the space is taken up, I've got quite a specific gap between my desk supports so I could fabricate something to fit perfectly in that without taking up any more space than necessary. Might do it as a DIY over the winter and make a project log of itAluminium profile would take up more space then a wheelstand i imagine?
Interesting, Trakracer just split my order for the desk/tray thing as its out of stock (was in stock when i ordered it a week ago!)The Sim racing bug really has hit strong with me again after getting the desk mounted Moza setup. To the point where I had the urge to invest more. With the potential to have a bit of stability in my work routine over the next year I want to really do it properly again.
I decided to invest in a rig that I can use both as a sim rig but also in a way in such as I can also use it to casually game in/watch films etc. It does require me getting rid of the desk as the rig will occupy the space the desk was in, and a bit more. However, I'm hoping it will be a comfortable compromise. Only time will tell on that front though.
I have the following ordered:
GT Omega Prime
GT Omega Monitor mount
GT Omega floor
TR folding desktop/tray (Would have went with the GT omega one for simplicity, however it is out of stock)
Still looking at speaker mounts, will probably end up ordering TR ones, as need ones that don't screw into base of speaker, but just looking to see if I can find any other options at the moment.
After looking at a lot of options, the GT Omega kinda stood out as good bang for buck, I was originally looking at prime lite, TR80 lite, or even Simlabs GT1 evo. Looking at more recent reviews seems to show that Trakracer customer service hasnt changed much and hassle and slow delivery last time has kinda put me off TR. They had a good deal on the TR80 but I've been down the 80mm profile route before and always said if I was to do it again i'd want to give the 120/160 stuff a go. I wanted to go with the Simlabs P1x but with the price difference incl seat and lead times the GT Omega just seemed the better deal. Time will tell if this is a good decision or not, but going by reviews it seems to be solid kit, and
This should give a solid foundation for future upgrades at least.
Will post some photos when I get my hands on it and get it built up, hopefully by the weekend.
I feel your pain buddy! I got burnt by Trakracer last time I built a rig, I got the TR80 back a few months before Covid hit, and just before the sim racing boom, my original purchase was fine, or maybe I just got lucky. Where it all fell apart for me was when I ordered multiple addons afterwards and just had no end of issues with CS, long delays and terrible shipping, the delays and shipping were one thing, but there was no excuse for terrible CS.Interesting, Trakracer just split my order for the desk/tray thing as its out of stock (was in stock when i ordered it a week ago!)
Their CS have been a pain to deal with and give alternating answers day to day, one of them got really mad on live chat when i asked if they could please get their story straight about what was in stock and what wasnt, their store also miss labels some items where parts you need arent included (flight sim mounts say including side bracket but on your order its not there, so you have to talk to them to get it added)
My old/Current rig is a GT Omega Wheel stand bolted onto the Frame extension with a seat and some old profile from a 3d printer as hotas mounts.
Was going to replace it with a prime, and I'm kind of wishing I had but TR sold the extra mounts I wanted for my flight sim gear and a much better desk mount that I can use playing space sims after popping off the wheel.
I hope the TR160 rig is as good as hoping cause TBH dealing with them is the sort of experience that puts up off ever going back.
Demon Tweeks is the place to go for TrakRacer stuff. Never again will I go directly to TrakRacer.I feel your pain buddy! I personally wouldnt deal directly with TR again. If I'm ordering anything TR I get it through Third party sellers. In this case I've ordered the desktop tray thing and speaker mounts from Demontweeks, who had stock for immediate dispatch and scheduled to arrive today at some point.
Dont get me wrong the TR kit really is good, I'm certainly not going to knock them for that. I'd definitely use their kit again. I'm just not prepared to open myself up to that type of hassle again when it comes to CS/support or complete lack thereof.
I'm not going to get too ahead of myself, I'm still yet to receive my GT Omega rig. It was ordered on Preorder for expected ~11/10/23 restock. We'll see how accurate thats going to be Hopefully I dont get stung on this one. However early interaction with their customer service has been very positive. to the point I was even conversing with them late on a Saturday afternoon (almost 6pm). They are quick to respond and helpful with their information. They actually get back to you when they say they will. Which shouldnt be a surprise in itself. As this should be a basic standard you should expect from customer services. Sadly this is not the case so often these days and leaves you praising a company for getting the basics like a base level standard of CS. Mind blowing that thats where we are at in 2023...
I hated building my TR80. The instructions were absolutely shocking I'm reasonably technically savvy so got their in the end, but there's a lot of people that would have struggled. I enjoy the tweaking though. Adding this here, that there. The building is half the fun. Do we ever truly finish tweaking?!
That shifter looks fantastic. My spare room (Where my rig is located) is next to the kids bedrooms to doesn't allow for the noise you tend to create with these things.Nice look forward to seeing to seeing some photos when you get done building! Will be nice to have inspiration!
I've started to get stuff through, monitor mount and desktop tray have arrived and have already been built in preparation. The rig itself is being prepared for delivery, which I assume means they have received shipment of of profiles and parts and are in the process of packing ready for distribution.
I've been home sick today, which is the worst thing as I start browsing when I'm bored, and with WRC coming in the next month, I started looking at what sequential shifters were on the market... boredom got the best of me
Should arrive tomorrow, which is going to be annoying as I wont be able to use it till I get the rig built, no other way to mount it.
Yeah I purposely bought the smaller one without the bells and whistles as it was supposed to be quieter with it lacking the ratchet system. but I also wanted that "planetery" gear thing for that mechanical shift feel. I would have loved the big brother it sounds freakin crazy, but the noise with that cool ratcheting system would have been too much. Profile frames tend to amplify these types of sound as well. That shifter looks fantastic.
