Sir Alex Ferguson Brands Newcastle A 'Wee Club'

It was a while back of course but not many clubs win anything these days bar the big few.

Does trophies make you a big club? Is it fanbase? Is it a combination?

Confusing. So no one wins anything these days bar the 'big clubs', does that make Newcastle a small club then?

So in summary:

Rafa Benitez calls Everton a small club.
Alex Ferguson calls him arrogant and says Everton is a big club.
Alex Ferguson calls Newcastle a small club.

Oh the hypocrisy.

If Everton are a big club I'd say Newcastle definitely were so this shows SAF is an arrogant hypocrite.

Comparatively speaking Newcastle United is a Wee Club against that of Manchester United and the pressure on their relative managers by the Media and in public perception is indeed as Alex Ferguson states.

Sir Alex always puts his foot in it. Most successful manager in football today can do as he pleases :D

Everton>>>>>Newcastle>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Liverpool

Everton could easily be top 4 challengers with a bit of cash. Newcastle spent all of Carrols 30m fee and look where they are now...couple of injuries and they're well out of the running for anything this year.

Give Moyes 30m and they'd be fighting for a Champions League position.

We can probably argue through til next year as to what is a "big" club and still not agree. What I do know is that we (Newcastle) are a mile off from competing with the Manchesters and Chelsea of the premier league. As a lifelong football fan what I find more worrying is the continuing lack of respect within the game , not just for the officials but of managers and I think the Fergie Pardew spat just illustrates the point nicely. The words used by Ferguson are provocative and I'm sure he know they would cause a reaction. But why bother - its like listening to kids arguing in the playground.

Newcastle are a small club. They have a fantastic huge home fan following though and great atmosphere at the stadium.

Everton and Newcastle are bigger than Liverpool?!

Bigger no, better yes.

I'm just stirring a little tbh people who take football too seriously make me laugh.

Newcastle are a small club, in terms of history it's not even a dot;

it's not just the amount of supporters which mean you are a big club, it's heritage, history, achievements. It's probably one of the top three supported clubs in England, but just doesn't challenge for trophies.

This.

Last won the league over 80 years ago, last FA Cup trophy was nearly 60 years ago and no major European honours (no the intertoto and interfairs are not major). So yes they are a "wee club".

This.

Posting in here in case it gets moved to SA :D

I miss G|mp.

Fergie is just distracting the media attention away from the poor performance (again), he's a smart man.
