Why is it I can always type, no matter how mangled I am, it might not make sense but I can still spell :/

No worries about the copy pasta story, glad you enjoyed it.

I would agree that two European titles is impressive, however when you take in to account that's for the club at the top of British football and over 26/27 years it's a less impressive achievement.

Manchester United or rather Ferguson has just been found out in Europe more often than not. As I say, I think even Sir Alex himself would in private admit that he didn't do well enough in Europe.

None of this is here to belittle his domestic achievement, which is hugely successful, but I think more should have been expected in Europe.

While I don't disagree with this as far as it goes - the Manchester clubs will always struggle to attract the very premium players just because of where they are , Chelsea have a hard enough time but at least they are in the centre of the Capital (and one of the fashion capitals which always interests the wives/other halfs). Even if Utd and the others can offer huge salaries (and the tax compared to Europe is far worse too), than going to Barca or Real Madrid and even Bayern / Juve to a degree. Its a real struggle to attract the premium Germans and Spanish to leave their own leagues.

There is the odd Alonso or Fabregas that come over as youngsters, but even they went back at their peaks/ near their peaks.

As Shami said, there is always going to be that "porto" moment, when the officials get it completely and utterly wrong - but on the other hand there is always likely to be the Ronaldo /Messi etc playing for the other team also.

(There have been a number of times where Fergie got it completely wrong, admittedly, but they are balanced out by those times were a player goes into a "fair" EPL tackle and get red carded because its European reffing as well)

Not really the point I was trying to make, if his reputation is such, you would have expected him over a 27 year career at one of the biggest clubs in World football to have won more European cups no?

No doubt about his domestic record, he's clearly the most successful British manager in domestic terms, but I'm sure he would have wanted to win more European trophies.

I'm sure he'd like to have won more European trophies as well but I'm not convinced that his lack of success when compared to his domestic record means that he's not still amongst the greatest managers. He has won pretty much every trophy that has been open to him as a club manager and effectively rebuilt a club into the powerhouse that it is again. Ferguson certainly isn't perfect but I think you're judging him pretty harshly here albeit that's probably a back-handed compliment of sorts about how high you think his standards are/should be when a level of success that most other managers could only dream of isn't good enough to be ranked as one of the greats. However it seems that we've got different criteria on this so it's unlikely we'll agree.

Well someone has to say it; Moyes now has got a great chance to start his United tenure with a trophy when we play Wigan in August, fair enough we're only talking the Community Shield but still...

First game, first trophy(thats if we win). Kinda like when Fabregas went to Barcelona.

His per-season looks interesting.
