Sky Fibre Optic

The current router can't handle the through put, and doesnt have the necessary settings on it for MER/DCHP option 61 authentication.

You can't keep judging if you don't know what you're talking about.

Excuse me?...

They sent an ADSL router for FIBRE and you plug the BT modem into one of the 4 regular ethernet ports, which I could easily do on my v1 router. Since ethernet routers have been able to do more than 40Mbps for quite a few years now... Its NOT a cable style router where you would attach a modem to a separate dedicated "Internet" labelled ethernet port. Nor is it a vDSL equipped model.

I can judge all I want as I have it and have a more than basic understanding on the hardware and protocols.

Fair enough bifday. Thought it was for brand new customers only not new fibre. Context can be a bitch!

but Sky says...
"Based on the number you have provided we are unable to provide you with Sky Broadband on your current phone line. You can still benefit from inclusive UK* landline calls with Sky Talk. "

I've currently got Sky Broadband (LLU), and when their fibre product launched the online availability checker said it was available but with an odd "40.0-40.0" predicted speed shown. I rang them up and was told it isn't actually available :(.

The online availability checker now tells me that I'm unable to have Sky broadand, even though I've currently got it... If I try my separate business line which is still with BT it says that fttc is available, but with the odd "40.0-40.0" speed shown.

In other words the online checker seems to be broken for some, so I'd give them a call to find out.

What is a V1 router? Unless it's one of Sky's fibre routers you'll lose your DHCP address from Sky so it won't work.

If they are going to block pirate bay, they may also decide to block other selected sites. This is a dangerous precedent.

They are already blocking newzbin2 (or trying to) following receipt of a court order, and it's only a matter of time before more are added to the list - see http://www.sky.com/helpcentre/broadband/protecting-copyright/

Edit: what I should have added is that it's not Sky choosing to do this, along with other ISPs (including BT IIRC) they're just doing what the courts have told them to.

Can't really blame Sky on account of a court order.

With the billions they are earning, I think we are in safe hands provider wise.

Placement of Sky+ HD boxes is going to be such major business for them, they are unbelievably big.

* My exchange was enabled in March 2011...
* My cabinet was enabled in December 2011...
* I can order BT Infinity...

I think this means they can't do *any* broadband, not just fibre.
.

It says the same for me but I actually already have sky broadband, sky's checker is useless.

Greetings Folks if you are getting good speeds say 16+ you are not going to be able to get FTTC.

Most of the time this is due eto being so close to the exchange that you dont have a cabinet and FTTC is fiber to the cabinet.

At this point FTTH (Fibre to the home) has not been opened up by Openreach yet but for any one with out a cabinet this is what you are looking for with speeds upto 300Mbps.

Also as far as i know to get Sky Fibre you have to have line rental with Sky also.

I'm on 19Mb and I've getting it :D

Also relocating the master socket which should help speeds. On their standard broadband I was losing 30% speed when using another socket as there's no power near the master socket.

That'll do! Much better than the 6mb I've been stuck on for the past 12 months :)

Well he's just been, no ccl errors thrown up (left it on for a good 15mins)

Very happy with it, was here all of 30mins:cool:

A bit better than the 3mb I was on. I've never had a ping that good before!

Just like everyone else's experiences, the guy from BT was very quick. He even waited around to make sure it was all working with the router and insisted on testing it to see if it was giving a good result on Speed Test!
