Sky Fibre Optic

Been on SKY for a couple years now with regular Broadband unlimited, today my fibre router came in, and tbh I just hooked it up thinking maybe it has already activated (fibre)....the router works fine, just getting 7mb kind of what I was getting before, should the fibre sky hub work with no fibre activated yet...as it is right now?...Or have I been 'activated' and I am just getting poor speeds?

Thanks in advance.

There should be a date on the box of the date it'll be activated i got my router around the 16/17th and mine was activated on the 21st.

I still connected it the day it come then on the 21st my net died for around an hour or so and come back on with the better speeds and ping.

Nice one, thats what I was looking for, thanks. Can't wait for 40mb!

Seems like my activation date is on Friday however my line is currently dropping like crazy, every few seconds is this normal prior to the switch from SKY broadband to SKY fibre.
How long did it take to make the switch?

I never noticed any dropping at all until it just cut off in the afternoon.

It took them around an hour n half to get it back on but i imagine it depends on your area and what they have to do.

I'd ring them up about the line dropping but obviously you can't moan about speeds until friday evening.

Thanks, the activation has happened, but getting approx 28mb, not 40mb, big step up from a measly 2mb I guess, just wondered any reason as to why this may be happening? Had one anomaly on a test come at 42mbps but never got it since....exchange is round the corner under half a mile.

Well I ordered sky fibre last night, and hoping that I can get some decent speeds out of it. The estimate 40mb and that will be the top of the package anywhere, but whatever it is I hope it's better than the 7mb now!!

They will test the line for up to ten days after activation. If you can then wire straight into the router as well (wireless sucks).

Sky Fibre isn't going great for me today on my first day of activation, was great during the day 25-35mb, but now at I guess peak times I'm getting 3-5Mb....can this be the case ever for anyone else? Ping go 66, upload being good though.

Appear to have lost 8 meg from my download speed with Sky - gone from 40 down to 32. Upload has increased from 8 to 10 though.
Would rather have the download speed back.

As an aside I currently have an ECI modem but want to be able to check my line stats. If I get a Huawei modem off ebay will it just work if I plug it in - I assume the modem doesn't hold and username info etc?

Yes. Which router are you using?

My cabinet went live today (oddly the Openreach where and when page still shows "Coming Soon") and I've just ordered Fibre Pro from sky. Cabinet is about 150m away so should be looking at decent speeds, at last! :)

No engineer visit, which surprised me a little - maybe it's because I'm already on Sky? Hub is being posted out and activation should be within 14 days...

yeah you don't need and engineer, you'll get the hub, it will say your activation date, an engineer will come out on tht date and swap the lines over from the exchange to cabinet and voila

You'll probably get the max 40 but sky fibre is capped at 40mbps unless u pay for fibre pro.

Can you upgrade to fibre pro in other way then getting lucky with a call centre worker who knows it exists?

I just joined Sky the other day (still awaiting broadband activation - 11th Feb). I just phoned up now and I *can* get Pro (the guy on the phone said it existed long before I mentioned it), but i'll need to wait for the OpenReach guy to flick a switch in the cabinet first to activate my basic Fibre Unlimited first.

Ive been waiting for years for be to offer fiber only to realize that sky bought them out and is taking over their network and now banner add for sky fiber on their homepage. How depressing, now im stuck with bt

You should have a look at Zen Fibre Unlimited if you want a similar experience to Be*.
