Sky Fibre Optic

Does my fibre go live before my phone line is moved over to Sky or do I have to wait the two weeks and it all happens on the same day?

It will likely happen all on the same day, but I have heard that in some situations the Fibre may go live AFTER your phone line does, but usually only by a day or two.

My Fibre went active today and was up and running when I woke up at 11. I'm using a 5GHz Wireless N bridge to connect at the moment while I think about cable or a Wireless N card as my current Wireless card is only a 'G' one. I've done a speedtest and got 36 down and 9.2 up which I'm very happy with over Wireless and I'm on 40/10.

I could place an order, as above, even though my exchange still shows as "Coming Soon".

Is this normal or should I expect problems?

The ADSL availability checker, Sky checker and BT's own infinity checker all allow me to order and say available etc. And my hub has been posted to me.

Sky also seem to have been very quick installing the link between their equipment and the OR stuff at the exchange which makes me a bit suspicious.

I'm ever the cynic :)

My exchange was enabled for FTTC 3 weeks ago but the BT Infinity checker still said my exchange was 'Coming Soon'. But if I put in my phone number or address on the BT DSL availability checker and websites such as BT, Sky, Plusnet when signing up it said Fibre was available. Had fibre eventually installed by Plusnet on Monday just gone no problems. The BT Infinity exchange checker does now say it's available in my area though.

I was with Sky on LLU/ADSL getting measly 4/0.8mb speeds.. My phone line and broadband died at 7am this Monday - come 10am BT OR chap knocked on my door, by 10:20am he was walking out and I had speeds of 62/18mb with Plusnet. :)

Cheers for the reply :)

Had my hub delivered today - activation day is Tuesday so so far, so good.

Purchased an unlocked modem and Asus N66U router though - don't intend on using the Sky hub at all.

Don't you need to get your password out of the Sky router?

Thanks

Well I'm sure my F&F offer that I had from MissCheif is about to run out and ive just signed up for fibre; is there a best way to try and get the Sky 25 offer?

Just had my fibre connection go live today, syncing at 40/10 but getting 18/10 on various speedtest sites.

My stats are below...

Broadband Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 39998 kbps 9999 kbps
Line Attenuation 7.8 dB 0.0 dB
Noise Margin 25.9 dB 31.31 dB

Does anyone know how to get a better setup for wireless range and gigabit ethernet than the black skyhub that just arrived? I go live on monday with a new line install as there's never been a line here before. I'm going for fibre pro. I'd love a couple of simple links from earlier in this thread maybe to the best kit and methods for using it with sky. Thanks guys and gals!

ps never had adsl or fibre before except cable all my life so as basic as possible please :)
pss I flaming love the tv service so far F1 testing in HD!!!............thanks to misschief for code :P

Have a look at the Skyuser forums. Full of useful info :)

Called Sky last Friday and said I wanted to cancel my 40/10 FTTC service to go to Plusnet, they gave me broadband for £10 a month for a year to stay with them :)

I got my activation date tomorrow, :) the fibre team wouldn't budge on the activation fee so he then transferred my through the cancelation department, after explaining that I feel undervalued by Sky when other providers are offering free activation and other benefits I was given Fibre for £10 a month, 25% off my tv package and free activation. Always worth complaining and threatening to leave.

Still not activated yet :(, they do say that it can take up to midnight which confuses me as I didn't think BT Openreach worked that late.

I used the hub and was still on normal as it was showing 8mbps, got back not long ago and its set to 39998, any1 know wt is the most accurate speed checker? im only getting about 13mbps though through extension socket(upload is great as im getting 8.5 atm). could I get more through wireless?
