Sky Fibre Optic

I noticed the Broadband Pro page in the MySky section once logged in but it says I can't access it as it's only available to Fibre Unlimited customers, of which I am, I guess it's a "coming soon" thing ... I guess time will tell

Merlin is a good FW to use on the N66U however I found it quite temperamental and was quite unstable, been rock solid on DD-WRT but each to their own. You get a username/password box to make it easy on Merlin, DD-WRT requires a tad more input.

Well the latest build of Merlin is super solid at the mo, only had the router a week or so so cant comment on older builds. :)

Think I'm going to move to Sky, My ISP (Coms.com, formally ADSL24) have managed to ruin a great ISP in a matter of weeks.

Cheers for the info TJ. :)

Not too shabby

Plus turn around time from ordering to going active was 12 days, so not too long a wait.

Did everyone on Sky Fibre Pro get the email about new features?

Static IP and line profile customisation :D

I've just had a live chat with Sky CS and you'll be able to set target snr to 3,6,9 or 12 from your settings page. They couldn't give an ETA but said it would be soon.
Any more news on this? I'd prefer a Static IP if i can get one, take it theres still no ETA?

Zero, none, zlitch etc.
Good cheers.

Hows gaming on Sky, good latency etc? Playing BF4 I ping most UK servers at around 8-10ms consistently at the mo, can i expect it to be much the same if i move to Sky?

When i asked them about moving phone and BB they offered me, along with Fibre pro and phone, 25% off my TV (have full package, HD etc) for 12 months. A good deal, so am very tempted by it....

One last question...

I've seen a few times that Sky block some websites, is it that bad or has it been blown out of proportion a bit?

Fibre pro? :)

I've got the standard Sky Broadband unlimited atm but got the itch to get better... Have read a lot of horror stories about upgrading to fibre (including going a week without any internet in some cases) but tempted non the less just not sure about fibre unlimited vs fibre pro :)

^ Yeah Fibre Pro.

Have to say, downloading Skyrim in 10 minutes was pretty awesome :D But the upgrade process was fairly painless, I guess there'll always be good and bad where ever you go, and it's always worse migrating from one provider to another. Downtime was only 20 minutes while they switched over the cables at the cabinet.

Well I transferred over without hassle on the same day; I was at work all day so ive no idea how long i was without net access (not that it would have mattered) but I had no problems.

As for pro, depends on your usage and where you are (line stats). Theres no point going for pro if you line will only cope wit 30 Mbps anyway, saything that my estimated speed was 59, the checker kept going down and stopped at ~53 so was thinking about changing the pro to normal, however when I went live I was on 77/20; stupid estimates.

^I agress d/l at 7MB/s is amazing!

Yeah, I'm under no illusions however, the exchange only just went live for FTTC, I imagine as more subscribers come online over the next few months, crosstalk will drop me down, either way I'm happy over my previous speeds.

Well I get tis with my current provider...

Sky will be the same wont it? Despite it being a different back end network?

Cheers for the feedback guys, good to hear the interruption isn't the standard :D

Had a look on the coverage checker (pita to get to on sky's website, had to pretend I was a new customer) and looks like can only get standard fibre rather than Fibre Pro - will still be upgrading mind :)

Fibre Pro is just a different line configuration. If you can get Fibre you can get Fibre Pro but make sure you line can support more than 40meg first.

Might be why it doesn't look like I can get pro then - Have this when check availiability;

Estimated access line speed: 36.5-36.5 Mbps

So guessing non-starter to get anymore than that :)

Also can't remember what speed my plug socket lan setup (better than wifi) can support so may even be a non-starter. Guess it's more than current speed anyway.

Have you used BT line checker (www.dslchecker.bt.com) rather than sky website?

What I find strange is thart my adsl was 5/0.8 and got 77/20 on FTTC, where as my Dad has adsl of 15/1 and his estimates is 35/8; I don't get that.
